A principios de año fui un lugar conocido y visitado por muchos habaneros, y personas de otras partes del país y del mundo. Este lugar se encuentra muy cerca de mi casa, a solo un kilómetros y medio. Este es un sitio campestre donde reina el verde de la naturaleza. Les hablo de la Finca La Pinta, esa que está por Punta Brava, en la calle 251 e/ 20 y 28.

Hello, my friends from Worldmappin. What a pleasure to greet you and to be able to show you more about my Havana.

At the beginning of the year, I visited a place known and frequented by many residents of Havana, as well as people from other parts of the country and the world. This place is very close to my home, just a kilometer and a half away. It’s a countryside spot where the greenery of nature reigns supreme. I’m talking about Finca La Pinta, the one in Punta Brava, on 251st Street between 20th and 28th.

Llevaba rato escuchando hablar de este sitio, que si el ranchón, que si la piscina, que si es uno de los lugares más famosos para festejar en La Habana. Siempre lo veía cuando pasaba en la guagua y resulta que tuve que visitarlo para hacer una investigación de la universidad.

I had been hearing about this place for a while — about the thatched roof hall, the pool, how it’s one of the most famous spots for celebrating in Havana. I always saw it when I passed by on the bus, and it turns out I had to visit it for a university research project.

La entrada ya te impresiona, te engatusa y te enamora. Es un lugar con un ambiente que te saca del ruido de la ciudad. Aquí hay un ambiente tranquilo e ideal para despejar y comer rico. El lugar es grande, tienen un ranchón enorme, áreas para jugar dominó, billar y hasta me dijeron que tienen discoteca para cuando la cosa se ponga caliente. Se siente fresco, con arbolitos, ideal para pasar el día.

The entrance itself impresses you, it charms you and makes you fall in love. It’s a place with an atmosphere that takes you away from the city noise. There’s a tranquil vibe here, ideal for clearing your mind and eating well. The place is large; they have a huge thatched-roof hall, areas to play dominoes, billiards, and they even told me they have a nightclub for when things heat up. It feels fresh, with little trees, perfect for spending the day.

Una de las cosas que más me gustó fue el colorido que hay por todas partes. Vean estos murales y los adornos navideños.

One of the things I liked most was the colorful atmosphere everywhere you look. Check out these murals and the Christmas decorations.

Pero independientemente de mi investigación para la asignatura de Economía Política, porque este es un negocio particular y familia, claro que no iba a perder la oportunidad de saborear algo de lo que ofertan en uno de sus sitios. Así que pedí una malta Bucanero, mi preferida, y un cóctel de camarones. No me pregunten el precio. El cóctel estaba muy rico y venía en un plato que parecía de loza fina. El servicio fue bastante ágil, no tube que esperar mucho.

But regardless of my research for my Political Economy course — because this is a private, family-run business — of course I wasn’t going to miss the chance to savor something from what they offer in one of their spots. So I ordered a Bucanero malt drink, my favorite, and a shrimp cocktail. Don’t ask me the price. The cocktail was delicious and came on a plate that looked like fine china. The service was quite fast; I didn’t have to wait long.

El lugar tiene una repostería y restaurante que se llama Mi Bohío. Dicen que allí preparan un delicioso tasajo uruguayo, acompañado con boniato caramelizado, que es muy sabroso. También vi que tienen opciones de “picadera” con empanaditas y croquetas que se ven especiales para tomar cerveza con los amigos, pero eso habrá que probarlo en otra ocasión. La Finca La Pinta es un lugar bonito, con un ambiente agradable, amplio, que invita a quedarte. Si vas, aprovecha el espacio, el dominó, la tranquilidad.

The place has a bakery and restaurant called Mi Bohío. They say there they prepare a delicious Uruguayan tasajo steak, served with caramelized sweet potato, which is very tasty. I also saw they have “snack” options with little empanadas and croquettes that look perfect for having a beer with friends, but that’ll have to be tried another time. Finca La Pinta is a beautiful place with a pleasant, spacious atmosphere that invites you to stay. If you go, take advantage of the space, the dominoes, the tranquility.

I left with my clothes smelling of the countryside and with a feeling of wanting more. Would I go back? Maybe, but next time has to be when someone invites me.
