In a previous article we talked about what you can get rid of as you do the spring cleaning of your home. Along with cleaning, the opportunity is to organize and the wardrobe with your clothes, which you always wanted to do but you postpone it constantly because you are afraid of the volume of work. What you need is an action plan. Below you will find a step-by-step guide that will help you clean and organize your wardrobe
Step 1: Remove the empty hangers
Remove the empty hangers from your wardrobe.
Cut out all the broken, corroded, rusty and weak hangers and put them in a bag of garbage as you grab them for the first time. They take every hanger only once.
Put the "good" empty hangers on your bed or chest of drawers, or in an empty box.
Now you have a little space in your wardrobe so that you can move more comfortably.
If you have no empty hangers at all, go straight to Step Two.
Step Two: Collect supplies
For this step you will need a bed to climb the clothes. If you are going to use this bed to sleep, do not start Step 2 very near the time you sleep, otherwise you should move the clothes before sleeping. You will also need:
If you only have wire hangers, buy as many plastic hangers as you can. Do not choose the most cheap but not the most expensive ones. Buy some straight and some with notches so you can hang clothes that have braces-cords without falling. Also buy some hangers that are covered with felt to hang clothes that slip (silk, etc.).
3 to 6 medium sized paper or plastic boxes that can fit on a shelf in your wardrobe or on the floor under your closest clothes or under your bed. These boxes will be used to store off-season clothes (unless you have another empty wardrobe where you can store these clothes).
A marker and adhesive labels.
Large plastic garbage bags to put the clothes you do not want anymore, and you'll give it to charities.
Paper bags that stand upright on their own or a trash can to throw the clothes that are for throwing and can not be donated to another person.
Pure laundry liners or boxes to distinguish and transport clothes to other rooms.
Step 3: Separate the clothes into accusations
If the clothes in your wardrobe are so crowded you can not move them, then take some clothes and put them on your bed. If you have some heavy clothes like coats or jackets, these are the best clothes to throw in your bed to make room. Also, if you have ties and belts hanging in the wardrobe, remove them.
Start from the point you see first when you open the wardrobe. Take all the pants in this first place and then all the skirts, all the shirts / sweatshirts, all the sweaters / jackets, all the robes, and all the dresses (make sure to place them in the wardrobe section that has the higher height). At this point, you have not made any decision as to what you will keep, what you will save or what you will donate or fly. Just arrange your clothes by category to see how much you have in each category.
Now go to each class and arrange the clothes according to their color and type. For example, in each category, you can sort your winter clothes from dark to open and your summer clothes from open to dark (but if you prefer you can keep the same line regardless of time of year). You can also go from lighter to heavier, like sleeveless to turtleneck.
Step 4: Remove clothes that are "off-season"
Go back to each class of clothes, in your wardrobe, and take offwear that is "off-season." You can do this twice a year: mid-autumn and early spring. Fold the clothes you removed and put them in one or more of the plastic or paper boxes or move them to the other, a spare wardrobe (if you have them). Never store any clothes for which you have any doubt as to whether they are absolutely clean (you may need to put some clothes for washing or send them to the cleaner before completing this step). In this way you will avoid holes from moths or yellows and stains in these clothes when you go back to the next period. If you have woolen clothes, add cans to naphthalene or another moth-repellent.
As you remove from your wardrobe clothes that are "off-season," look for the following clothes for each item:
If you have not worn it for more than 5 years and you will not lose or put on weight until the next season, then you probably should get rid of this outfit.
Does it look good on you?
Is it comfortable?
Do you still like it? Do you still find it stylish enough to wear it?
Did you try to wear it recently but did you get it because you did not like it?
Is it too out of style?
Is there someone who can be thrilled if you give it to him?
If you have a friend or relative who would be happy to have the clothes you chose to give, let him know what you are doing and ask when you can go from home to show him what you have. The rest of the clothes are donated to a charity of your choice. The secret is to get rid of the plastic bags quickly before you start to have doubts about the clothes you are throwing away and start restoring them in your wardrobe.
As you answer these questions, divide the clothes you remove from your wardrobe as follows:
Whichever you like and want for the next season, put it in one of the storage boxes, marked by category.
Any cloth you can quickly decide to be for delivery, put it in a large bag of garbage you've branded "for charities." As the bags are filled, remove them and put them in your car's trunk.
If for some clothes you can not decide if you want them or not, put them in the boxes for storage and postpone to make the final decision next season. Or mark a box of "clothes I do not know if I want to keep" and see if you miss the next season.
If you like some clothes but need some repair, put them in your car to give them to the seamstress or decide that it's not worth the cost and put it along with the clothes to give.
Any clothes that are damaged (faded, holes, torn, have stains, etc.) and can not be repaired, put them in a separate garbage bag.
Step 5: Quickly check the "season" clothes that stayed in your wardrobe
Everything that is left in your wardrobe after the 4th Step should be "season" clothes, suitable for use in the next 4 to 6 months. These clothes are sorted by category and color. If you want, you can quickly pass these clothes and answer the same questions you asked about the clothes you removed from your wardrobe in the 4th Step. If you decide that some of these clothes do not make you, they are old-fashioned or for whatever reason you do not like and do not wear them, put them in the plastic bags for delivery. Also, check if some of these clothes need repairs or cleaning and put them together with the rest of the clothes for the moped or the laundry.
Step 6: Save the clothes "off-season"
Store the boxes with "off-season" clothes under the bed, on a shelf or on the floor of your wardrobe or in another room in your home.
You finished something you wanted to do for a long time but you always upset it because you were afraid of the fuss! Take a great breath and celebrate it by rewarding yourself!
