Our day had started very early with the goal of making the most of it by exploring a bit of the surroundings of Corrientes. After Gabi and Luis’s uncle picked us up in his car, the four of us set out on a day trip so I could get to know a little more beyond what I had seen in the previous days. Our original plan was to reach Itatí, a small city on the banks of the Paraná River, but fortunately, we made a few other stops that we also enjoyed 🙂.
Nuestro día había empezado muy temprano con el objetivo de aprovecharlo al máximo visitando un poco los alrededores de Corrientes. Después de que el tío de Gabi y Luis nos pasó a buscar en su auto, los cuatro emprendimos un día de paseo para que yo pudiera conocer un poco más allá de lo que había visto en los días anteriores. Nuestro plan original era llegar hasta Itatí, una pequeña ciudad a orillas del Río Paraná, pero por suerte, hicimos algunas otras paradas que también disfrutamos 🙂.
In total, we traveled more than 70 kilometers by car to reach the city of Itatí, but along the way we made two stops to explore Santa Ana, a small local town. I knew we were going to Itatí, but the stop in Santa Ana was an extra that allowed us to see a very calm and well-kept neighborhood. When we finally arrived at our final destination, we were greeted by an entrance to the city with a large sign and a sanctuary of the Virgin Mary that foreshadowed what would be a very religious place.
En total, recorrimos más de 70 kilómetros en el auto hasta llegar a la Ciudad de Itatí, pero en el medio hicimos dos paradas para recorrer Santa Ana, un pequeño pueblo local. Yo sabía que iríamos a Itatí, pero la parada en Santa Ana fue un plus que sirvió para ver un barrio muy tranquilo y prolijo. Cuando finalmente llegamos a nuestro último destino, nos encontramos con una entrada a la ciudad con un gran cartel indicativo y un santuario de la Virgen María que anticipaba lo que sería un lugar muy religioso.
Like the city of Luján in Buenos Aires, the city of Itatí is deeply shaped by religion and even attracts pilgrims who come to see the Virgin as a sign of gratitude. In Itatí, there is a large Basilica that brings together all the believers who wish to visit it. Without a doubt, it has a beautiful, striking, and imposing architecture, both inside and out. This place reminded me a bit of the Basilica of San Nicolás in Buenos Aires, which has a similar design.
Al igual que la ciudad de Luján en Buenos Aires, la ciudad de Itatí está marcada por la religión e incluso atrae gente peregrina que viene a ver a la virgen en seña de agradecimiento. En la ciudad de Itatí hay una gran Basílica que reúne a todos los creyentes que quieran ir a visitarla. Sin dudas tiene una arquitectura hermosa, llamativa e imponente, tanto por dentro como por fuera. Este lugar me recordó un poco a la Basílica de San Nicolás en Buenos Aires, el cuál posee un diseño similar.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Itatí is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. At the time of our visit, it wasn’t very crowded, which was ideal for being able to contemplate it in silence and with respect. It was full of details that made it elegant, yet not as overloaded as the also imposing Basilica of Our Lady of Luján. In contrast, this place felt a bit simpler to me, but just as special for housing the Virgin.
La Basílica Nuestra Señora de Itatí es tan hermosa por dentro como por fuera. Al momento de nuestra visita, no estaba tan concurrida, pero eso fue bueno para poder contemplarla en silencio y con respeto. Estaba llena de detalles que la volvían elegante, pero a la vez no tan sobrecargada como la tambien imponente Basílica Nuestra Señora de Luján. En contraste, este lugar me pareció un poco más sencillo pero igual de especial para resguardar a la Virgen.
After walking around the surroundings of the basilica for a while, we headed to the waterfront to have our long-awaited picnic. This is a city that borders the Paraná River, and this area is set up for that, with a large walkway for strolling and tables and chairs to spend the day. We finished recharging our energy with the empanadas Gabi made, and of course, the mate was a must. I had also brought my Worldmappin sticker, and although I didn’t find a suitable place to stick it, I was at least able to take a photo of it as a keepsake.
Después de caminar un poco por los alrededores de la basílica, fuimos hasta la costanera a tener nuestro tan esperado picnic. Esta es una ciudad que linda con el Río Paraná, y esta zona está preparada para eso, con una gran pasarela para dar un paseo y mesas y sillas para pasar el día. Terminamos de recargar nuestras energías con las empanadas que hizo Gabi y por supuesto que los mates no faltaron. También había llevado mi sticker de Worldmappin, y aunque no encontré un lugar adecuado para pegarlo, al menos pude sacarle una foto de recuerdo.
I thought our outing was over when we left the waterfront, but to my surprise we made one more stop on the way back, pausing briefly in another riverside town called Paso de la Patria. I had already heard about this place and had been told it was very beautiful; even though we arrived at night, we were still able to see a bit of it. Just like in the city of Corrientes, Paso de la Patria also had decorative murals with reliefs adorning the town. It’s probably even more beautiful during the day, but our nighttime stop was still very nice.
Pensé que nuestro paseo se terminaba cuando nos retiramos de la costanera, pero para mi sorpresa tuvimos una parada más cuando volviendo, paramos un momento en otra ciudad costera llamada Paso de la Patria. Yo ya había escuchado sobre este lugar y me habían dicho que era muy hermoso: a pesar de haber llegado de noche, pudimos ver un poco de él. Al igual que en la ciudad de Corrientes, en Paso de la Patria también habían murales decorativos con relieves adornando la ciudad. Seguramente de día es todavía más lindo, pero nuestra parada nocturna también estuvo muy bien.
I loved sharing this day with Gabi, Luis, and their uncle, going from one place to another. The friends Hive gives us go beyond the virtual world, and this trip proved it completely. Traveling around the province of Corrientes—the last one on my list of Argentine provinces—was very special. I was so glad to have these friends waiting for me there; I couldn’t have asked for better local guides ❤️.
Me encantó compartir este día con Gabi, Luis y su tío, paseando de acá para allá. Los amigos que Hive nos deja traspasan la virtualidad, y este viaje lo demostró por completo. Pasear con ellos por la provincia de Corrientes, la última de mi lista de provincias de Argentina, fue muy especial. Me alegró haber tenido a estos amigos esperándome allá: no podía haber pedido mejores guías locales ❤️.
