During the second week of my job-to-accommodation exchange at the hostel in Cafayate, I had to do my shifts in the afternoon, so I was ‘forced’ to get up early to make the most of the day. The hostel owners suggested rotating schedules so that we could all enjoy mornings and afternoons free in town, which I thought was a very thoughtful idea. Lately I don't consider myself a ‘morning person’, but as I had little time left in the place, I felt motivated to go for an early morning walk to make the most of my last days there 😃.
Durante la segunda semana de mi intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento en el hostel de Cafayate, me tocó hacer mis turnos por la tarde, por lo que estaba "obligada" a levantarme temprano para aprovechar el día. Los dueños del hostel nos propusieron horarios rotativos para que todos pudieramos disfrutar mañanas y tardes libres en el pueblo, lo que me pareció una idea muy considerada. Ultimamente no me considero una "persona de la mañana", pero como ya me quedaba poco tiempo por aquel lugar, me sentí motivada a salir a dar paseos un poco temprano para aprovechar los últimos días ahí 😃.
Cafayate is a small town on Route 40 in the province of Salta and although, wherever you are, everything is close by, the hostel I chose for this exchange was only one block from the main square. Being right in the centre of town had its advantages, as you didn't have to walk far to get to the beautiful parts of town, and for any sightseeing you wanted to do, you had to pass through the streets with the historic architecture of the place 💕.
Cafayate es un pueblo pequeño sobre la Ruta 40 en la provincia de Salta y aunque, estés donde estés, todo te queda cerca, el hostel que elegí para este intercambio quedaba solo a una cuadra de la plaza principal. Estar en el pleno centro del pueblo tenía sus ventajas, ya que no había que caminar mucho para acercarse a las partes lindas, y ante cualquier paseo que quisieras hacer, tenías que pasar por las calles con la arquitectura histórica del lugar 💕.
As for the main square, this was of course the most important meeting point. While I was there, it was spring, so every day and night was pleasantly warm and inviting to be outside. Also, on Saturday mornings there was a craft fair where it was possible to see some of the local art and buy some food. The quietness of the atmosphere and the beauty of the square made the ambience very beautiful 💕.
En cuanto a la plaza principal, por supuesto que este era el punto de reunión más importante. Mientras yo estuve por ahí era primavera, así que todos los días y noches tenían temperaturas agradables que invitaban a estar afuera. Además, los sábados por la mañana se montaba una feria de artesanías en donde era posible ver algo del arte local y comprar algunos alimentos. La tranquilidad del ambiente y lo lindo de la plaza volvían muy hermoso el ambiente 💕.
Another icon of Cafayate and of the main square is the traditional church. This church does not have the style of a big gothic cathedral as I have seen in other towns or cities in my country, but it is still very well preserved and picturesque. This layout of a central square surrounded by the church, town hall, police office and school is something that can still be seen in most places in Argentina, a product of the historical colonisations 🙂.
Otro de los íconos de Cafayate y de la plaza principal es la tradicional iglesia. Esta iglesia no tiene el estilo de gran catedral gótica como la que he visto en otros pueblos o ciudades de mi país, pero igualmente se conserva en muy buen estado y es pintoresca. Esta distribución de plaza central rodeada por la iglesia, municipalidad, oficina de policía y escuela es algo que todavía se puede ver en la mayoría de los lugares en Argentina, producto de las colonizaciones históricas 🙂.
On my morning walk I also walked almost a kilometre to the entrance of the town where the bus terminal and a small square are located. There you will find the typical signs with the name of Cafayate, to keep as a souvenir of your trip here. This town is not that big, so half a morning is enough to walk through it from one end to the other and see all it has to offer. So far I hadn't visited it in detail, but I enjoyed doing it before noon when the sunlight was warm and perfect for this kind of relaxed stroll 💕.
En mi paseo matutino también caminé casi un kilómetro hasta la entrada del pueblo en donde se encuentra la terminal de omnibus y una pequeña plazoleta. Ahí se encuentran los típicos carteles con el nombre de Cafayate, para que queden como recuerdo de tu viaje por acá. Este pueblo no es tan grande así que con media mañana te alcanza para recorrerlo de punta a punta y ver todo lo que ofrece. Hasta el momento no lo había visitado con detenimiento, pero me gustó hacerlo antes del mediodía en donde la luz del sol estaba cálida y perfecta para este tipo de paseos relajados 💕.
Going to exchange work for accommodation in Cafayate in Salta was not something I had originally planned as my original idea was to go to the Jujuy area, but to have made it to this town once again was not bad. All the little northern towns on Route 40 are beautiful, and having two weeks there to enjoy them was not something I would have had to complain about. I felt very welcome in this place and in the hostel as well and if I had to go back, I would go back without hesitation. Good stays always leave me wanting to repeat them 💕.
Ir a hacer un intercambio de trabajo por alojamiento en Cafayate en Salta no era algo que tenía planeado inicialmente ya que mi idea original era ir para la zona de Jujuy, pero haber llegado hasta este pueblo una vez más no estuvo nada mal. Todos los pueblitos del norte ubicados sobre la Ruta 40 son lindos, y tener dos semanas ahí para disfrutarlos no era algo por lo cual yo hubiese tenido que quejarme. Me sentí muy bien recibida en este lugar y en el hostel también y si tuviera que volver, volvería sin dudarlo. Las buenas estadías siempre me dejan ganas de repetirlas 💕.
