Hello, how are you? I was doom scrolling through social media all night, then this one video popped out of a clay artist making handmade clay, which made me curious, but the problem is that it is an air-dry clay. I am a sucker for air-dry clay. I like my clay to be instantly dry, which stops me for a minute before I want to try it.
I decided this is the time. So I prepared everything I needed just to make it easier for me when making it, so I ordered online materials that I needed for making one.
So cold porcelain is made out of cornstarch, with glue and oil in it. I thought cornstarch was for food only, but you can make clay out of it, how cool is that!?
Materials I Used:
- 1 cup PVC Glue
- 1 cup Cornstarch
- 2 tbsp. Baby Oil
- 1 tbsp. Glycerin
- 1 tbsp. White Vinegar
- 2 tbsp. White Acrylic Paint
- Vaseline
- Weighing Scale
- Pot
- Stove
- Container
- Cups Measurement
- Ziplock
- Air Tight Container
- Cutting Mat
- Spatula
Time To Make Clay!
In a pot, I added 1 cup of cornstarch.
Then a cup of white glue.
2 tablespoons of baby oil.
1 tablespoon of glycerin.
To prevent the clay from molding, I added a tablespoon of white vinegar.
Then I added 2 tablespoons of white acrylic paint. You can add acrylic after making the porcelain clay, or you can add other colors too.
Mix everything until well combined.
Put the pot with the mixture and cook it until the texture of the clay turns into a dough-like texture. Make sure the heat is very low.
Now that the clay is cooked, I pour enough cornstarch onto a clean flat surface.
Before I knead the clay, I rub enough vaseline around my hands to prevent the clay from sticking to them, and then knead the clay until it cools down. When the texture of it turns smooth, one thing to know is that the clay is already kneaded with the teardrop pull.
This is what it looks like. Before putting it into the ziplock bag, coat the clay with baby oil for extra hydration.
Then I kept the cold porcelain in a ziplock and placed the clay into an air-tight container to stop it from drying.
Before using, let the porcelain clay rest for 24 hours before using.
Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
