We are almost at the end of the first month of 2023. During the first days of January, a lot of people set their New Year's resolutions, as we often start off the year with a high level of motivation, yet soon after, the motivation begins to fade and our goals become distant memories. By now, many have realized that what they set as their New Year's resolution was either unrealistic or close to achievement.
What are my 2023 goals?
There is no doubt that this year will be a stressful one to me as a final year student in the university. There are a lot of things in hand I have to achieve and you know, being a student, I don't own 100% of my time. I have to attend lectures, do personal studies, work on final year project, blog and so on. This is the time to practice proper time management in order to achieve the goals I set for my self. I remember last year, my goal was to complete at least three udemy courses on web development and I was very fortunate to achieve these goals by September, I then used the rest of the months for my summer internship.
This year, things are quite different. As I stated earlier, the goals I set up for myself are on a daily basis, and so far I am complying with them. I hope to keep the energy going throughout the year.
These are my daily goals from Monday-Saturday:
- Wake up every day at 4:00 a.m.
- Practice coding from 4:10 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Take an hour break for prayers and a workout.
- Continue coding practice from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM.
- The hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. will be mostly for attending lectures and spending time in the library or with friends.
- From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM is for my interactions on HIVE if I don't have lectures at that particular time.
This is how I plan to spend my daytime from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m., and I make sure I go to sleep at 9:30 p.m. This I believe will help me achieve the yearly goals I have set for myself. For long-term goals for the year, I will be sharing them in a different post.

Why Setting Realistic Goals is Important
It is critical to avoid the trap of setting too many or too large goals when setting them.Instead, by breaking your goals into smaller and more realistic chunks, you increase your chances of achieving them. That could mean setting a goal to lose 10 pounds in a month instead of 50 or to learn a new skill in 3 months instead of 6. Setting realistic goals provides us with tangible metrics to track and monitor our progress toward achieving the goal.
Setting realistic and achievable goals is key to staying motivated. We are all motivated by different things, and it’s important to set goals that you actually believe you can reach. Start off small and work your way up; this will prevent you from becoming overwhelmed or frustrated. Aim to achieve something each day that will help you further your goal. Celebrate the small victories as well; it will keep you motivated and on track for the long haul.
It is also important to find a support system to help you stay focused and motivated. Whether it is a close friend or family member to act as a "coach" or even an online support group to help you stay on track, it is essential that you keep your goal top of mind. Not only will this help hold you accountable, but it will also give you the emotional and moral support that is needed to reach any goal.
It is important to not forget to reward yourself for achieving your goals. Achieving goals should be celebrated, and it is important to do something meaningful that will remind you of the progress you’ve made and encourage you to continue on your path.
Finally, one crucial component to staying motivated is to ensure that you find a purpose behind what you’re doing. Ask yourself why you’re setting this goal, and how it will benefit you in the long run. Knowing the "why" behind what you’re doing will help keep you accountable and focused. And of course, remember to set aside some time for yourself to give yourself a break and prevent burnout.
