Former Colegio Teresiano del Vedado. [ESP-ENG]

Good morning to all my friends in this spectacular community, which makes me appreciate my surrounding world and investigate it more every day. Almost by chance I came to Ormani Arenado Llonch Primary and Secondary School, because there is a dental clinic there where a friend works, since for some time I had had discomfort in a tooth and at her insistence I went to visit her and treat myself. Since I arrived at the building I was captivated by that structure that I am showing you today.
This school is located in Vedado on Calle 17 between 12 and 14 in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality here in Havana. It has the appearance of a castle. Since I saw it I fell in love, I took advantage of the fact that I went on a Saturday and there were no children everywhere and I took several photos of the interior of some areas that they let me pass, they did not let me go up, but what I am going to show you is quite interesting.

Buenos días a todos mis amigos de esta espectacular comunidad, que me hace apreciar mi mundo circundante e investigarlo cada día más. Casi por casualidad llegué a Escuela Primaria y Secundaria Ormani Arenado Llonch, porque allí hay una clínica dental donde trabaja una amiga, ya que desde hace un tiempo tenia molestias en una muela y ante su insistencia fui a visitarla y atenderme. Desde que llegué al edificio me cautivó esa estructura que hoy les muestro.

Esta escuela está ubicada en el Vedado en la Calle 17 entre 12 y 14 en el municipio Plaza de la Revolución aquí en La Habana. Tiene la apariencia de un castillo. Desde que lo vi me enamoré, aproveché que fui un sábado y no había niños por todos lados y saqué varias fotos del interior de algunas zonas que me dejaron pasar, no me dejaron subir, pero lo que les voy a mostrar es bastante interesante.

This school was built and inaugurated in 1916, according to the consulted bibliography, I leave it at the end, it contains very interesting data. In 1914, the sisters of the Congregation of Santa Teresa de Jesús arrived in Cuba from Mexico and in 2 years they had already built one of the first religious schools in Cuba.

Esta escuela fue construida e inaugurada en 1916, según la bibliografía consultada, la dejo al final, contiene datos muy interesantes. En 1914, las hermanas de la Congregación de Santa Teresa de Jesús llegaron a Cuba desde México y en 2 años ya habían construido una de las primeras escuelas religiosas en Cuba.

Today this old Teresian School of Vedado is the Ormani Arenado Llonch School, preserving its imposing structure, bordered by a wall adorned with figures that resemble a four-petal clover. The roof of the portal draws those little squares that we see from childhood in all representations of castles, the entire roof of the building retains that structure. When arriving at the school's portal in its terrazzo floors in the center, a logo is inserted which is the symbol of the Jesuits where the letters JHS are appreciated, which according to the bibliography means "Jesus, Man, Savior", in the letter H is also inserted a letter T, which indicates the name of Santa Teresa, all these initials are bordered by a clover flower, a very well elaborated logo, where even the different tonalities and colors were taken into account.

Hoy este antiguo Colegio Teresiano del Vedado es el Colegio Ormani Arenado Llonch, conservando su imponente estructura, bordeado por un muro adornado con figuras que asemejan un trébol de cuatro pétalos. El techo del portal dibuja esos cuadraditos que desde pequeños vemos en todas las representaciones de castillos, todo el techo del edificio conserva esa estructura. Al llegar al portal del colegio en sus pisos de terrazo en el centro, se inserta un logotipo que es el símbolo de los jesuitas donde se aprecian las letras JHS, que según la bibliografía significa "Jesús, Hombre, Salvador", en la letra H también se inserta una letra T, que indica el nombre de Santa Teresa, todas estas iniciales están bordeadas por una flor de trébol, un logotipo muy bien elaborado, donde incluso se tuvieron en cuenta las diferentes tonalidades y colores.

The portal is composed of 3 wide arches, which end in a point like the Gothic buildings, so I think there must be some influence, on each side of the portal there are two benches (it is noted that they were put later) planters decorated with figures that resemble clover as well as the wall. On both adjacent sides of the portal there is a garden of lush vegetation, I like the vegetation but on this occasion it seems to me exaggerated especially on one side hindering the visibility of such a beautiful building, anyway I will present current and old photos so you can appreciate it better.

El portal se compone de 3 arcos anchos, que terminan en punta como los edificios góticos, por lo que creo que debe haber alguna influencia, a cada lado del portal hay dos bancos (se nota que se pusieron después) jardineras decoradas con figuras que se asemejan al trébol al igual que el muro. A ambos lados contiguos del portal hay un jardín de exuberante vegetación, me gusta la vegetación pero en esta ocasión me parece exagerada sobre todo en uno de los lados dificultando la visibilidad de tan bello edificio, de todas formas presentaré fotos actuales y antiguas para que podáis apreciarlo mejor.

The main door, is a wooden structure with a square door, located in an arch of equal proportion to the portal, these arches are very striking, upon entering the lobby you can see another very nice figure embedded in the center, it is a mandala, which has another clover as you may have appreciated these clovers are seen throughout the structural design of the building, its meaning has always been associated with wisdom and fortune.

La puerta principal, es una estructura de madera con la puerta cuadrada, ubicada en un arco de igual proporción al del portal, estos arcos son muy llamativos, al entrar al vestíbulo se puede ver otra figura muy bonita incrustada en el centro, es un mandala, que tiene otro trébol como habrán apreciado estos tréboles se ven en todo el diseño estructural del edificio, su significado siempre se ha asociado con la sabiduría y la fortuna.

Passing the foyer and following the sequence of arches, if we look to the sides they lead to the side corridors where the different chairs and administrative offices are located. But if we look to the front we find a spectacular central courtyard, surrounded by thick columns that end in semipuntiagudo arches like those of the entrance. A beauty to observe these arches, my eyes did not even want to blink, very nice. As I have said countless times I love the arches and columns.

Pasando el vestíbulo y siguiendo la secuencia de arcos , si miramos a los lados conducen a los pasillos laterales donde se encuentran las diferentes cátedras y oficinas administrativas. Pero si miramos hacia el frente nos encontramos con un espectacular patio central, rodeado de gruesas columnas que terminan en arcos semipuntiagudos como los de la entrada. Una belleza observar estos arcos, mis ojos no querían ni parpadear, muy bonito. Como he dicho infinidad de veces me encantan los arcos y las columnas.

The base of the columns are covered with red granite like the floor of the central courtyard and between the arches there is a 4 petal clover. In the center of the courtyard embedded in the floor there is a green map of Cuba, you can see the whole island, it is very nice this inlay, I would have been very grateful to have had this design in my elementary school, the children of that school must feel happy.

La base de las columnas están cubiertas de granito rojo como el suelo del patio central y entre los arcos hay un trébol de 4 pétalos. En el centro del patio incrustado en el piso hay un mapa verde de Cuba, se puede ver toda la isla, es muy bonita esta incrustación, yo hubiera agradecido mucho haber tenido este diseño en mi escuela primaria, los niños de esa escuela deben sentirse felices.

Being in the courtyard if we look up we can see the different corridors, with the arches in the same arrangement as those below. It is a very nice harmony, they explained to me that next to these corridors are the different classrooms of the students by courses, on the lower floors are the smallest students and on the higher ones, those of higher levels. I would have liked to go up and take a picture from the top but I could not, a pity.

Estando en el patio si miramos hacia arriba podemos ver los diferentes pasillos, con los arcos en la misma disposición que los de abajo. Es una armonía muy bonita, me explicaron que junto a estos pasillos están las diferentes aulas de los alumnos por cursos, en los pisos inferiores están los alumnos más pequeños y en los mas altos, los de niveles superiores. Me hubiera gustado subir y hacer una foto desde arriba pero no pude, una pena.

I love those cornices with those supporting decorations that always appear on colonial buildings and I am very grateful when they are preserved.

Me encantan esas cornisas con esas decoraciones de apoyo que siempre aparecen en las construcciones coloniales y agradezco mucho cuando se conservan.

This school has an important history and architecture, it is also very beautiful, I think it requires maintenance and cleaning work to enhance its value, it is also a shame that they changed its exterior windows on the second floor for aluminum windows, nor the fence on the outer wall, even so I wanted you to appreciate it, I hope I have achieved my goal despite the imperfections and obvious traits of neglect.

Esta escuela tiene una importante historia y arquitectura, además es muy bonita, creo que requiere trabajos de mantenimiento y limpieza para realzar su valor, tambien es una pena que cambiaran sus ventanas exteriores del segundo piso por percianas de aluminio, ni la cerca sobre el muro exterior, aun así quería que la apreciaran, espero haber logrado mi objetivo a pesar de las imperfecciones y evidentes rasgos de descuido.
