Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: EARTH
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: FLYING
Ruleset and line-up:
Fog of War - Monsters lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities
Taking Sides - Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles
Mana Cap of 13.
Available Splinters - Earth, Death and Dragon
My Team:
Summoner: Obsidian (+1 to all Magic damage)
1. Mycelic Morphoid - Melee Damage Dealer with the Thorns ability
2. Fungus Fiend - Melee Damage Dealer
3. Regal Peryton - Magic Damage Dealer with the Flying ability
4. Djinn Biljka - Magic Damage Dealer with the Void and Camouflage abilities
Strategy:
Hard to come up with a decent strategy with this little Mana and the Fog of War ruleset. I decided to go for a Magic team because Melee is hardly an option in a Fog of War ruleset and Ranged Monster can't attack in the front position so that would be very dangerous in a low mana ruleset without a good tank.
Position 1 - Mycelic Morphoid:
Nothing more than a Meatshield to take one attack before it goes down. If I am lucky it might be a melee attack and the Thorns ability deals some damage to the attacker.
Position 2 - Fungus Fiend:
Another Meatshield - it would be waste not to place it for 0 mana.
Position 3 - Regal Peryton:
The star of this battle. Thanks to the high speed and the Flying abilities it has a very high chance to dodge melee and ranged attacks and I almost flipped my table over a couple of times facing a Regal Peryton in an opponent team. Maybe it is my time to go a dodge spree?
Position 4 - Djinn Biljka:
Very cool reward card. 2 Magic damage for 3 mana is excellent in the Silver League. Even without the Fog of War ruleset it can't be targeted thanks to the Camouflage ability. However because of the low HP it is very weak to Scattershot or Blast abilities.
My opponent chose the Wizard of Eastwood summoner which wasn't the best choice for this match-up because none of my Monster have Armor, but he probably did it to be able to place the Khmer Princess behind the Unicorn Mustang.
Round 1:
I was a bit worried seeing the Unicorn Mustang in the line-up, but thanks to the silver league and the higher base damage its Void ability isn't quite as worrisome as it only reduces my Magic damage by 1. Placing the Mycelic Morphoid was a good choice, its death brings 2 bonus Thorns-damage to the Unicorn Mustang
Round 2:
The Unicorn Mustang starts the round already heavily damaged. It takes down my Fungus Fiend but then dies to Djinn Biljka's attack.
Round 3:
With a big 5 speed difference my Regal Peryton delivers the final blow to the Khmer Princess.
Result:
My Strategy worked great but only because of the low level cards of my opponent. On level 4 - which is still Silver league the Khmer Princess gains the Tank Heal ability. With that ability the match outcome might have been different depending on dodges or the who goes first cointoss.
The Regal Peryton is a pretty awesome card (at least when it is in my team). The dodging ability can be brutal sometimes. It is a great addition to the Earth splinter. Most of the Magic cards are very week to Sneak attacks, but this one can be a match winner because of the dodging.
