As I made my way through the ever busy Ahia Ọhụrụ (New Market) to get stuffs, the sky suddenly darkened and before you count two, raindrops began to fall.
"Oh no! why would it rain now, of all times, when I'm in the middle of shopping?" I exclaimed, feeling almost overwhelmed with frustration.
"It would have waited till I was done and back home!" I added. I hate getting caught in the rain especially when I'm out, not to mention shopping.
Fortunately I was already at this stall where I usually buy yams so I took shelter there, watching the rain transform the market's atmosphere.
Surrounded by vibrant colors and lively chatter, the rain added a refreshing touch to the scene. Vendors scrambled to cover their goods, while shoppers sought shelter beneath nearby canopies and awnings. .
As the sky continued to release its contents in great torrents, the smell of wet earth and fresh produce filled the air, mingling with the pitter-patter sound of the rain as it hits the ground, and umbrellas opening.
I quickly pulled out my phone from my handbag to capture the moment.
The rain lasted for almost two hours. At a point I had to step out of my shelter and continued with my shopping, just like other shoppers did. And you know what, I got soaked!, Well, I was running out of time so I didn't have a choice but to do so.
It was already drizzling by the time I was done shopping.
The rain may have interrupted the day's activities, heck! it actually did, but it also brought a sense of calm and community to the market, and a cold evening too, lol.
