Shoes! Shoes!, Oh! shoes of life! I'm a shoe enthusiast! Honestly, I've had my fair share of beautiful shoes - stilettos, flats, boots, loafers, sneakers, and sandals, name it. Give me a pair of stilettos and I'll make the streets my runway. Lol.
Some of these shoes still hold a special place in my heart. But there's one pair of shoes that stands out in my memory - my trusty pair of black flat shoes.
After completing my one year National Youth Service Corps' exercise at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State some years ago, I was lucky to land a marketing job with an Assets Management company. Dress code was corporate attires. As a fresh graduate starting out in life, my finances weren't enough to get me a new pair of shoes, so I went to a thrift store and got this beautiful pair of black shoes.
The shoes had a bow tie design with a gold accent. On the gold accent was an inscription which "Feragamo", which was barely readable as it was quite faded. The shoes became my trusted companion as I walked the streets of streets of Uyo, while carrying out my marketing activities. I loved the shoes as they were comfortable, versatile, and easy to maintain - just a quick clean, dry and polish, they were good to go.
And here's the memorable part of my journey with the shoes.
One day, my manager noticed the shoes. He had walked into the account's office where I was submitting some papers, and his eyes landed on my shoes. "Wow, what a nice pair of shoes, Feragamo, isn't it!" he said. "Yes, thank you", I replied, beaming with smiles. "You've got a top designer shoes there, he continued", Feragamo is one of the best", he ended, with an impressive nod.
Hearing those words, I couldn't help but beam with pride. All this time, I was wearing a designer shoe without even knowing it! Wow! From that day on, I wore those shoes with even more pride, appreciating them in a whole new way. Though I no longer have them, the memory of that moment still brings a smile to my face.
More so, they remind me of the hustle, the learning curve, and the growth I experienced in my early career. I'm truly grateful for the role they played in my journey...
That's a wrap.
Have a fabulous week y'all!
