I photographed this lily on the coast of the small town of Paralimni.
It's called Pancratium maritimum.
But this is not its only name, it is also called sea lily, sand lily, sea daffodil and so on.
Pancratium maritimum is a perennial, bulbous plant.
About 40 cm high.
Its root system can reach up to 1.5 m.
This lily has a very pleasant aroma, I did not even need to "poke" my nose into this lily to feel it, since the aroma was heard even at a distance.
Pancratium maritimum opens its flowers in the evening and closes at sunrise.
In Cyprus, this lily has been recorded in more than 25 places.
The total number of Pancratium maritimum is more than 200,000, but the largest subpopulation is found in the occupied territories of the island of Cyprus.
Pancratium maritimum is found only on the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean.
I found out in which areas of the island this lily grows, but to my surprise, I did not find the city of Paralimni in this list.
True, in the place where my friend and I found her, there were only a few of her bushes.
Pancratium maritimum is a protected species due to the development of coastal areas, which is the place of its growth, as it grows only on sandy beaches.
Do you know this lily?
