Part of timing is knowing when one day ends and another begins. For a while I had been publishing posts in this series one calendar day after the "close" of the crypto markets. I've fine-tuned my post timing to the point where I can publish these posts on the same day. As of this post, I pinpointed the "market close" to 8:00pm ET (New York time) for BTC, ETH, LTC, HBD and CUB. Hive, given its independent streak, has its "market close" between 8:30pm ET and 8:45pm ET; I need to pinpoint "closing time" within that 15-minute window. This gives me another 3+ hours to prepare the project portion of the post and discuss for a bit another feature of hive.ausbit.dev. This post will show the closing prices for some cryptos as of 2022 January 30.

Closing Prices for Some Cryptos, 2022 January 30
This is the reason for this post!
| Crypto | USD (Previous) | 30 January 2022 | 24h Trend | Streak |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | 38,232.000 | 37,983.000 | DOWN ↘ | W5L1 |
| Ethereum | 2,603.600 | 2,610.180 | UP ↗ | L1W1L1W3 |
| Litecoin | 110.980 | 108.850 | DOWN ↘ | L2W3L1 |
| HBD | 0.989 | 0.990 | UP ↗ | W1L1W2L1W1 |
| Hive | 0.963 | 0.959 | DOWN ↘ | W5L1 |
| Cub Finance | 0.253 | 0.250 | UP ↘ | W1L1W1U1W1L1 |
Closing Prices come from their respective Historical Data pages at CoinGecko.com.
- Both BTC and HIVE-- after opening the "Closing Prices for Some Cryptos" series with 5 winning closings-- had their 1st losing closings.
- ETH now has 3 winning closes after a wishy-washy 3-day opening streak.
- LTC ended its 3-closing winning streak with an L.
- HBD may be back t an alternating closing pattern, but today it closed with a W.
- Turn the lone U into an L, and CUB is alternating between winning closings and losing closings. Today CUB took the L. Tomorrow is another day.
Why Those Cryptos?
Bitcoin and Ethereum
Two cryptocurrencies have 57.1% market dominance. You guessed it: BTC and ETH.
HIVE and Hive-Based Dollar
The Hive ecosystem is set up to tokenize nearly every action made by its members. Likes elsewhere are upvotes here, and each upvote is worth some amount of HIVE. Not only posts but also comments can be upvoted. Tipping can be done independent of the upvoting. Additionally, there are numerous ways to earn more HIVE such as delegation of Hive Power, liquidity pools which use SWAP.HIVE, and ownership stake in a number of Layer 2 tokens which reward their holders with periodic drips of HIVE. Combine this with various forms of DeFi, blockchain gaming, and an explosion in dApp development for the Hive platform, and HIVE begins to look attractive to outsiders.
Like banks both brick and digits, Hive offers its members the ability to place money in the form of HBD into a savings account. Unlike traditional banks and even the online banks, Hive offers a 12% APR to HBD placed into savings. Balance is subject to a 3-day withdraw waiting period.
Cub Finance
LEO is the Big Cat, the King of the Jungle, the Lion. CUB is a play on that theme, since offspring of adult Lions are called Cubs. However, the stand-alone token logo graphic for CUB is titled lionfinance. Don't believe me? It's an SVG file, so it has a title element; here is partial source code for this SVG file:
Cub or Lion, all I know is that CUB has a presence at Binance Smart Chain, and the sale on CUB continues. Buy CUB while supplies last!
Litecoin
It's possible to mine Dogecoin and Litecoin simultaneously using the same equipment. How is this possible? Both cryptos use Scrypt rather than Bitcoin's SHA-256 hashing algorithm. While Bitcoin uses Proof of Work, both Litecoin and Dogecoin use something called Auxiliary PoW (better known as merged-mining). Dogecoin inherits much of its code from Litecoin, so it is a natural for merged-mining. Bitcoin is infamous for its current levels of energy consumption even after employing many ways to reduce that energy consumption. Nevertheless, Litecoin remains in the shadows doing its thing. In that respect, Litecoin is similar to Hive.
Something To Read Besides a Table
In each post I give each of the 6 cryptos covered a different bit piece of trivia or fact just to mix it up. It would have been easy to keep the same text for them, but where's the fun in that? So I find different things to say about BTC, ETH, LTC, HBD, HIVE, and CUB.
As for additional content, this is what I've been considering:
- Quotes from movies, pop-culture, business, history, etc. is a possibility, but I need to pick my spots.
- Links to articles could work, although I haven't fine-tuned my link finding process to be able to do this regularly.
These additions were considered, but I had to pass on them:
- NFTs -- I don't know enough to be clueless on them, so they're out.
- Selfies -- It's bad enough I have ID photos, so I have few if any selfies.
- Jokes -- They could be recurring, but they would appear at random times when it makes sense to include them.
- Recipes -- "Where do chicken breasts come from?" "The supermarket." Do people really want recipes from me?
So that's how I decided to go with any of the 156 dApps in various stages of development for the Hive platform. I thought it would be a good idea to stay in-house and promote our own offerings. Since this series is devoted to closing prices for some cryptos (with Litecoin replacing EOS), the natural first dApp to cover is hive.ausbit.dev by "@"ausbitbank.
Today's Bit about hive.ausbit.dev
The last post covered the Create an Account menu item from the hamburger menu control. Today's post covers the Developer Docs menu item. It opens a separate tab or window leading to the Hive Developer Portal. This has resources for anyone who wants to maintain existing dApps or develop their own. Below is a composite graphic showing the menu and the Developer Docs tab or window:

Just My Two Sats
Now that I know that most of the crypto markets "close" at 8:00pm ET (New York time), I have more time to prepare posts in this series for same-day publishing. Hive has a different "closing" time, but it's not much later.
Post format continues to evolve, but it has settled down a bit. The biggest gripe I have is with the streaks, and that's because it will get out of control some time in February 2022. I'll figure something out for the streaks, and it may require a new table format. But that's OK.
