Today is the 7th edition of the "Closing Prices for Some Cryptos" series, which means that tomorrow starts Week 2. Each crypto featured in this series will get a different blurb every day just to mix it up. Brief explanations of the first project for this series, hive.ausbit.dev continueThis post will show the closing prices for some cryptos as of 2022 January 31.

This is the reason for this post!
| Crypto | USD (Previous) | 30 January 2022 | 24h Trend | Streak[*] |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | 37,983.000 | 38,556.000 | UP ↗ | wlwwwlw |
| Ethereum | 2,610.180 | 2,689.22 | UP ↗ | wwlwwww |
| Litecoin | 108.850 | 109.680 | UP ↗ | llwwwlw |
| HBD | 0.990 | 1.000 | UP ↗ | wlwwlww |
| Hive | 0.959 | 0.974 | UP ↗ | Wlw |
| Cub Finance | 0.250 | 0.244 | DOWN ↘ | wlwuwll |
Closing Prices come from their respective Historical Data pages at CoinGecko.com.
[*] = Now that streaks are getting longer to display-- especially the short streaks, I decided to use the following shorthand:
w = 1 Win w W = 5w = wwwww ! = 2W = WW = wwwwwwwwww --> (Wins are EXCELLENT!!)
l = 1 Loss L = 5l = lllll ? = 2L = LL = llllllllll --> (Loss? Why, crypto, WHY??)
u = 1 UNCHANGED U = 5u = uuuuu - = 2U = UU = uuuuuuuuuu
a = L1W1L1W1 -- alternating streak starting with L A = W1L1W1L1 -- alternating streak starting with W
ERRATA
- Before this post, I had stated that both BTC and HIVE started with a 5-closing W streak. I had misread the tables from CoinGecko, and as a result I provided bad information. I apologie for those errors.
- The closing streak for BTC is actually a symmetrical
wlwwwlw. - The closing streak for HIVE is accurate at
Wlw(previously stated as W5L1 before today's W).
- The closing streak for BTC is actually a symmetrical
CORRECT DATA
- ETH is at 4 winning closes as of today. Can ETH convert that
wwwwinto aWtomorrow? - LTC is having good separation between
l's with variousw's. It's not as eye-popping asWWor evenW, but more W's than L's is good - HBD has a similar streak to LTC, only it started with a W. It also reached the USD 1.000 for the first time during this series.
- If we consider the lone U to be an L, then CUB had been alternating between winning closings and losing closings. Today CUB ended its alternating streak. Unfortunately, CUB took an L to go on a 2-
lstreak.
Why Those Cryptos?
Bitcoin and Ethereum
Two cryptocurrencies have 57.3% market dominance: BTC and ETH. BTC dominates ETH by more than 2 to 1.
HIVE and Hive-Based Dollar
For stablecoins pegged to USD, their peg is direct. Hive-based dollar, on the other hand uses an indirect peg to USD by using HIVE as an intermediary. HBD depends on the how much HIVE equals USD 1.000. (Or is it the other way around? Fell free to clarify this in the comments.)
Cub Finance
CUB is the gateway crypto to DeFi through Hive. This is where we discover terms like yield farming, farms, dens, and kingdoms. Diesel pools or liquidity pools are, along with dividend-yielding tokens are the extent of my DeFi experience, so these terms are a mystery to me. Then again, it's probably that way for every DeFi token as each offers its own theme and vocabulary.
Litecoin
Litecoin seems to be stuck in a holding pattern, going sideways. If this is the consolidation phase before the next bull market, that's OK. I like buying Litecoin when it's on sale.
Something To Read Besides a Table
The quest for additional content continues. I had considered these and decided against them:
- NFTs -- Are there NFTs which aren't for gaming or collecting? Yes. Do I know where they are? No.
- Selfies -- The audience for my selfies would be a very niche audience.
- Jokes -- I think I just made on with my comment on selfies.
- Recipes -- I'm better off compiling recipes to make a tokenized cookbook for future distribution online.
These options are still under consideration:
- Quotes from movies, pop-culture, business, history, etc.
- Links to articles -- I know there are dozens of crypto web sites online, but which ones are good for explaining intraday market performance? Of those, how many are free of FUD?
That's how I decided to go with any of the 156 dApps in various stages of development for the Hive platform. I thought it would be a good idea to stay in-house and promote our own offerings. Since this series is devoted to closing prices for some cryptos (with Litecoin replacing EOS), the natural first dApp to cover is hive.ausbit.dev by "@"ausbitbank.
Today's Bit about hive.ausbit.dev
The last post covered the Developer Docs menu item from the hamburger menu control. Today's post covers the Hive Source menu item. It opens a separate tab or window leading to a GitLab site set up for Hive source code. From the GitLab site, it's a "Group of public repos for Hive "cryptocurrency". Below is a composite graphic showing the menu and the Hive Source/GitLab tab or window:

Just My Two Sats
After this post, 1 week is in the books for the "Closing Prices for some Cryptos" series. It's not obvious tonight, but I've timed the crypto market "closings" to within 15 minutes. Tracking streaks was getting out of control-- especially for alternating streaks-- so I came up with a tighter text coding which represents these streaks. I also needed to correct some bad data I included early on but only noticed tonight.
Post format continues to evolve, but it has settled down a bit. I wouldn't mind linking to an article for each crypto, but I don't know which sources to use which are also FUD-free.
