Hello, creative family!!!
This week, I'm here for the first time to share one of my design projects. This time, it's a tattoo design, for the 28th issue of ¡Activate! Get Inspired with Aries.
When I found this call for entries, many ideas immediately came to mind, but I decided on this project because it's been a while since I created a design this fine. Tattoo art requires great creativity, and I believe that the key, in addition to the beauty and skill of the artist, is to have an original design that translates the essence of who we are to the world with a language that aligns the created image with the personality of the person wearing it.
Therefore, to achieve a unique design, all the information about the person wearing it must be gathered. I usually create designs based on specific requests, but I also find it beneficial to have a bank of designs, as a dossier, that I can show to anyone who wants to learn about my aesthetic and artistic philosophy.
Without further ado, I'll show you the creative process step by step. Designing a tattoo inspired by the Aries zodiac sign was a conceptual challenge. In addition to the subsequent research process in search of references, defining the style was quite interesting; then achieving the synthesis of the idea required a bit more searching within my own expressive discourse. My creations, in this sense, always seek to emphasize the line as an element of visual suggestion.
Taking Art Nouveau as the mainspring of my poetic approach, I set out to design. Although I generally design using digital resources, for this work I decided to go back to the old ways and generate the sketch manually to give it greater freshness and authenticity (sometimes designing on a laptop becomes monotonous and repetitive). So I grabbed some cardboard and pencil and got to work.
Materials: Canson thread cardstock and pencils.
First, I prepared the cardboard. Using a pencil, I began by drawing a circle, which I divided in half. I wanted to achieve a decorative asymmetry, but also a corresponding geometric balance between the two hemispheres of the design. This would provide the distinctive detail I wanted to achieve, that necessary uniqueness. You can see the evolution in the images.

Here, I used that Art Nouveau solution I mentioned earlier in the lines that make up the interior of the horns, culminating in a language more in transition to Art Deco, with straight lines that visually evoke a pleasant and very harmonious feeling. Simple but with "substance." This is the case with the straight lines that simulate lightning bolts or the circumference itself on which the entire image is created.
Once the design was complete, I proceeded to evaluate the lines in terms of thickness and intensity of the stroke.
This is how the sketch for this Aries tattoo turned out: a blend of distinctive elegance, without being overly figurative, and suggestive beyond measure. The language I prefer to use in this subject.

Iniciando la semana llego a este espacio por primera vez para compartirles uno de mis trabajos en materia de diseño. En esta oportunidad se trata de un diseño para tatuaje, a propósito de la Edición 28 de ¡Actívate! Inspírate con Aries.
Cuando encontré esta convocatoria inmediatamente surgieron muchas ideas, sin embargo, me decidí por este proyecto pues hace algún tiempo ya que no creaba un diseño con estos fines. El arte en el tatuaje demanda de una gran creatividad y creo que lo fundamental, además de la belleza y de la destreza de quien lo haga, es tener un diseño original que traduzca al mundo la esencia de lo que somos con un lenguaje que haga corresponder la imagen plástica creada con la personalidad de quien lo lleva.
De ahí que, para lograr un diseño único, se deba reunir toda la información sobre quién va a llevarlo.
Suelo crear según pedidos específicos pero también me resulta provechoso tener un banco de diseños, en calidad de dossier, que pueda mostrar para quien desee conocer mi estética y filosofía artística.
Sin más preámbulos, a continuación, les muestro el proceso creativo paso por paso.
Diseñar un tatuaje con inspiración en el signo zodiacal de Aries significó un reto a nivel conceptual. Además del consecuente proceso investigativo en busca de referentes, definir el estilo fue bien interesante; luego lograr la síntesis de la idea demandó un poco más de búsqueda dentro de mi propio discurso expresivo. Mis creaciones, en este sentido, siempre buscan más el protagonismo de la línea como elemento de sugerencia visual.
Tomando al art nouveau como principal resorte dentro de mi poética, me dispuse a diseñar. Aunque, por lo general, diseño empleando recursos digitales, para este trabajo decidí volver a la vieja usanza y generar el boceto de manera manual para imprimirle mayor frescura y autenticidad (a veces diseñar en la laptop se vuelve monótono y reiterativo). Así que tomé cartulina y lápiz y puse manos a la obra.
Materiales: cartulina de hilo Canson y lápices.
Primero preparé la cartulina. Con lápiz comencé por dibujar un círculo, el cual dividí a la mitad. Quería lograr una asimetría en cuanto a lo decorativo pero un equilibrio correspondiente entre ambos hemisferios del diseño desde lo geométrico. En ello estaría ese detalle distintivo que quería lograr, esa unicidad necesaria. Verán en las imágenes la evolución.

Aquí empleé esa solución art nouveau, que antes mencionara, en las líneas que conforman el interior de los cuernos, para culminar con un lenguaje más en tránsito al art decó con líneas rectas pero que visualmente despiertan una sensación agradable y muy armónica. Simple pero con “sustancia”. Es el caso de las líneas rectas que simulan rayos o la propia circunferencia sobre la que se crea toda la imagen.
Una vez que estuvo el diseño completo, procedí a valorar las líneas en cuanto a grosor e intensidad del trazo.
Así resultó el boceto para este tatuaje de Aries, una mezcla de elegancia distintiva, sin ser en exceso figurativa, sugerente por demás. El lenguaje que prefiero emplear en esta materia.
