If you have been following my blog, you might have read my previous post on “Rethinking Education In 21st Century”. So, today I am going to talk about some of the deeper aspects which can help in the development of children in overall.

Generally, in schools we can see that the main focus is in teaching rather than learning. Teaching and learning are two totally different concepts. Every student can “learn” but not in the same day or the same way.

There is a great saying, ”Teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change. And, learning is more than absorbing facts, it is acquiring understanding”. The concept of teaching becomes limited when they think teaching is all about imparting knowledge to students, rather than focusing on the ability of every student which can help them to explore more and understand the content rather than just remembering it.

Basically, children must me taught how to think rather than what to think. This should be the main goal of teaching so that children can explore and think out of the box. This way we can realise the potential and capability of each child.

Little Things Add Tremendous Value

In reality, everyone focuses on the bigger aspects of things in life and ignore the little ones. But, those little ones actually can add more value to anything in life. One who values the little things actually knows their deeper impact.

This concept is equally applicable in the education system also. Just by taking little steps, we can help a lot of children in the learning process. For example, memorizing and learning techniques can be taught in addition to the curriculum. Because, every student can learn, it’s just that we need to open different ways of doing that.

For example: We need to memorize a list of few things. Then, we can use different techniques like associating the list of things with real images or with your body parts if you want to memorize in the same order. We can do the same with dates and number as well, by dividing them in some sequence or linking it with special dates in your life or events.

Many students are confused about two similar kind of words. In my case I was confused about the difference between principal and principle. Then I learned the difference by simply breaking it down to “princi-pal”. Pal means a friend which is associated with a person, so that goes with the head of the school and the other one goes with rules and regulations.

This way we can actually memorize faster and for a longer period of time. It can even enhance the capability of one’s memory power which can also help children to perform better in other fields of life.

Realizing The Immense Potential of Every Children

As I mentioned earlier, every child can learn, it’s just that we need to open different ways of doing so for them. Because every child has some potential in them, so its very necessary to realize that potential rather than undermining it.

Nowadays, we can see due to today’s education system hardly 10-15% of the potential of children is being used. Generally only toppers are getting all the focus due to which other children lack behind even after being equally capable.

Can you imagine the kind of geniuses we might be leaving behind due to the way our education system is designed? Why not introduce little changes here and there so that we can at least start the process of a more modern system that is required for the children of today?

if we don’t realize the immense potential of every children, “We may not only miss one genius but we may crush it”. And as you may know, one genius is all it takes to change the world a hundred times over!
