I've spent most of my game time trying to upgrade my items so as to stand a better chance with enemies but the mission has not been a walk-in-the-park. Imagine just getting 5 rare sheriff stars and using it to play the lottery - bronze pack. I really had a good shot at getting better guns as they occupied 3 spots on the cards but I narrowly missed them for a useless boot which is of little priority right now, maybe it should be my "Emotional Game Moments". Getting coins is even hard and spending them wisely is harder
It is a cool evening in the west as the environment is serene but guess what, I just found a dreamcatcher. Yeah, I'm currently on two side missions - Dreamcatchers of Oregon and Bandit's Map pieces - which can be found in my journal. The former is about mysterious artifacts scattered all over Oregon, apparently by someone hell bent on scaring residents with horrific nightmares. If I don't destroy them, who will? They are 30 in existence and I've destroyed 3 so far. It's a long shot really but it requires patience. The latter are pieces of maps which when put together, reveals the location of a hidden Bandit's treasure; it behoves me to find this, really. They are just 15 of 'em pieces
These side missions are a good way to earn coins, main missions that connects the storyline are equally good. Speaking of Missions, it's time we continued from where we left off. It appears our cowboy sees a chance to leave but wouldn't because some hostiles are attacking town and the sheriff is all alone in the fight. He could use my help. I expected the main mission to yield greater coin rewards but nahh.. Rewards are actually lower than side missions. It is quite logical though, since it is more challenging and also takes time to complete side missions, I think it is fair.
The Sheriff is displeased with the appearance of the cowboy. Apparently, the latter had been wanted for murder. He questions the wanted poster shown to him and says he hadn't even been to town in days. As he continued to defend himself, he made mention of the word "Wife" which sends him to a trance-like state - more like a memory from a recent event, quite similar to the earlier one but this time, clearer. A distress woman (ostensibly his wife) is seen,
Darling!!! Please, don't!
A shot is then fired from a pistol. During the former episode of his memory jerks, only the hand was shown. This time, the man who pulled the trigger, it appears to be the cowboy himself. Did he kill his wife? Why did he? These are questions expected to run through the player's mind. Well, no room for much thoughts as raiders interrupts their conversation. The two are to take on the enemies.
The raiders were quite much and they packed quite a punch. If not for the newly acquired double handguns, it would have been a different story. They positioned themselves atop and behind buildings. I even required to summon my horse so as to ease maneuvering but it paid the ultimate price (I don't know if it's a he or she because it isn't specified). Good thing is, you cab always re-summon another horse after one has been killed. A cowboy can't be without a horse, can he?. Good for him, helping the Sheriff earned him favour. The Sheriff promised not to turn him in and to cook up a falsified story. Either way, he is now a fugitive.
Getting coins can either be by hunting or embarking on mini missions that span over waves. Hunting isn't really a profitable business as you can't tell the location of an animal. You'll have to frolic around the map for a while before even finding an animal that may not be worth the while. It is every shades of detrimental as "worthless" animals can be as dangerous as the high priced ones. But if the weapon is good, then the worry is less. Mini missions are increasingly challenging: The first few waves are easy but if the player is stagnant (with no upgrades done) it becomes hell of fights and battles. In consolation, rewards are juicier with increasing challenges.
A Flower for Her Grave
The Sheriff also mentioned something during our encounter. He said my wife is being sighted by villagers and has sent rumours flying around of her resurrection. His wife was dead so how possibly is it?. It's the wild west, where witches and wizards are in abundance so it shouldn't be much of a question. Whichever way it goes, there's still a thick fog of confusion hovering over the rumours.
By now, the cowboy's name should have been made known but his identity has only been cornered with pronouns and titles. Maybe it's part of a twist to the plot, who knows? He arrives to a ominous catacomb which is typically silent. He observes the environment then proceeds to a pond where he is required to get 6 water Lillies. It is a bit of a journey but his horse comes in handy. The pond, in a beautiful serene environment, is formed by a little waterfall right above it. The water lillies are indicated and he proceeds to pick 'em
On picking the fourth, a huge bear emerges! Apparently, it had been lurking in a cave behind the waterfall, probably studying its "prey" before revealing itself with a shrieking roar. The cowboy starts shooting at it with his double handgun and I had thought it would make a near-instant kill but alas, I was wrong. The bear was still very much alive after the 6th shot and now he begins to worry for his safety. The bear makes a powerful charge which immediately knocks the cowboy out. Thankfully, he is still under a grace as a newbie player and he is offered a "great healing elixir" which regenerates him. He takes the shot again and the bear dies. That was close! He then picks the rest of ghe water lillies.
POND DUNGEON
On completion of the just concluded mission, a new mini mission is unlocked. A goofy kid has challenged you into finding four artifacts he had hid in the dungeon. This looks to be fun.
Cowboy arrives the very creepy dungeon on a low key - he has to thread carefully because we never can tell what lies in wait. The first artifact is sighted, thanks to the map that indicated their locations. It was initially thought to be a sight and grab action but it turned out to be a puzzle - sight, solve and grab. If not it being my first shot at it, the puzzle would have been more difficult. I solved it with less than half of the 15 available moves. The second artifact is solved but it gets challenging with the next
Witches and vampires emerge from 'nowhere'. They are quite a formidable force to contend with and my handgun could only kill a few before submitting to their superior charge power. He is killed but he has the option to revive for free. There are critical issues to deliberate on though; How sure are we that those enemies are not the tip of the iceberg that lies in wait for our titanic? Why waste a free revive pack for just a few coins (65)? Why also waste bullets when it needs to be conserved for a little price?. And that is the first time I will be "just die". Sorry goofy kid, I can't waste my lifelines on your cheap puzzles. Maybe when I'm in dire need of coins, I will return, but for now,
Toodle-oo!
I'll be visiting her grave to deliver the flowers in the next episode
