For years now Splinterlands has the ability to let card owners rent and delegate their cards to other players. From peakmonsters to now a permanent fixture in the game players can rent out cards. In today's post I look at the current rental markets and noticed there are some potential deals.
Rental in DEC
In order to rent cards we need to have DEC. As of now DEC has fallen in price therefore in terms of $ or Hive it is cheaper to rent now than a few months ago.
In regards to renting cards I like looking at monstermarket.io as it is quick to load and easy to see minimum per bcx and minimum multiple bcx rental prices.
For example currently the rental of a Mother Khala at minimum 1 bcx will cost 5.074 DEC. Meanwhile multiple bcx lowest price is 0.808 DEC per bcx. Note these prices are per a day.
Similar to trying to find a deal in buying cards we can now look for deals on renting cards. For instance in snapshot above the rewards legendary at 1 bcx it currently cost 3.087 DEC for 1bcx Lord Arianthus. For those newer players on bronze league and below, this would be an ideal tanker to use. I am surprise it is currently the 6th cheapest card to rent in terms of reward legendary at 1 bcx.
Also another example is shown at the front of this post where a Untamed legendary summoner at 1 bcx is rental cost is cheaper than multiple Untamed rare summoners. That would be another rental steal.
All in all I think players who start out small but want to play the game with a better experience could be using the rental market to enhance their gaming experience.
How Rentals Work?
Again make sure you have enough DEC to perform the rental but once you picked out the card/s to rent you will have the opportunity to select duration of days. At minimum rental is one day is required. In the past the max has been 30 days but that may have changed since the last Splinterlands update.
In order to furfill the rental payment you need to have the sufficient DEC to pay for the entire duration of the rental. So in example above for renting out a Lord Arianthus for two days it requires at least 9.2 DEC. Once payment is sent the renter automatically has Lord Arianthus in their disposal to use in battles.
As also stated in the bottom right of the snapshot the renter do not get any cashback for renting cards unlike there is a 3% cashback for buying cards. Still its only a fraction of the cost in rental versus buy as 1 DEC is currently worth less than $0.0007 cents!
Just to note for the leaser they don't earn the entire DEC amount paid by the renter. The leaser has to pay a fee towards Splinterlands/Peakmonsters for each day the card they leased that gets rented. It is very small fee of 5% of the rented price.
Conclusions
I have been using mostly the Peakmonsters.com rental market. They were the first to develop such a system and the game itself has had rental/delegation for years. The game has gone through a few growing pains but overall I believe the Splinterlands rental market is one of the greatest achievements of NFT ecosystem.
From the ability to rent/lease cards to having worked through cool downs and fee structure the game is way beyond its time compare to many other crypto games out there. This is not even including the game itself being a lot of fun.
I recommend those who don't have deep pockets or those who want to try out the game at a higher league to try rentals as the initial cost is substantially less than actually buying the cards. If you see yourself playing this long term I do recommend owning cards as you go, but even I have seen players who started out renting turn into card holders and building their own collection over the years.
Until next time thanks for reading!!!
