Splinterlands today posted news on the upcoming soul bound reward cards and I will just say it is by far the best update to date! Period. Everything they are coming up with the soul bound cards are outstanding and in this post I will cover the reasons as to why and what to look out for when it rolls out at the end of this month, Jan. 2023.

Thinking Long Term
When new reward cards roll out they will be locked in player's account until the reward card is no longer in print. This will help curbing players from earning cards and quickly selling them for a quick gain. It will also force players to play for the long run as the cards can not be traded, rented, or sold.
It was great that Splinterlands will still allow the cards to be sold or traded in the future when the cards become out of print. Estimated guess on when this occurs ranges from 1 to 2 years. This timeline is beneficial for long term holders. Overall a solid plan and one that I think many will come to agree is wonderful.
One minor drawback I see is that players who earn reward cards will not be able to exchange cards for tokens so that they can use the proceed to purchase other cards and grow the account. On the other hand they have to hold on to the reward cards and use them as part of their deck and by earning more they would be able to level up the cards to earn stronger cards to play.
Massive Amount Of New Reward Cards
We don't have a ton of info on the specific cards yet but official news is listing a total of 43 new reward cards to replace all the current in print reward cards. Note on day the new reward cards are rolled out the current in print cards will stop and end its printing. This means from now until end of the month are the only times left to earn the current reward cards. This has led to massive price hikes in current reward cards. You can just see by looking at reward legendary cards!
With the large quantity of reward cards roll out comes the many varieties of cards beyond what we have seen in past reward cards. For instance there would be 6 summoners where each splinter has one. Then there are 37 monsters to earn. It almost sounds like it is own set of cards that if a player was dedicated enough and able to earn all would have a competitive deck to play.
Again 43 cards in total and if we compare from different series this is by far the biggest group of new reward cards ever rolled out and the set is bigger than any of the promo sets from Orbs, Dice, and Riftwatchers.
New Abilities
It is icing on the cake to know that with the large amount of new reward cards there is also some new abilities that will roll with it. I won't repeat specifically what was officially listed but it can be found in Splinterland's official post.
Loot Rewards and Potions
New odds for pulling rewards cards will be implemented with the new reward cards. One update that is outstanding is the use of potions. For those who have played the game way back at the beginning potions earned in reward chests could be used to increase odds of pulling legendary and gold foil cards. This is returning with the new odds adjusted.
I personally have saved my potions long enough and its great news to see that there is potential to using them again for free when trying to pull better reward cards.
Conclusions
I don't think I have been this excited with an update since lands began selling. This is a major step in the evolution of the game. The changes are focusing on the game's future by making players having to hold rewards longer. Meanwhile the cards themselves are very attractive to earn with all the new abilities and varieties. I have no complaints what so ever and in fact I am playing more daily matches now knowing that current reward cards will be out of print very soon.
Until next time thanks for reading!!!
