Hoy toca un post de mis grandes amores: los libros. Como saben, soy súper fan de la lectura desde que tengo memoria. Agarré el hábito de devorar páginas a más no poder desde que tenía aproximadamente 14 años, y desde entonces, mi vida sin una buena historia no es vida. Y si hablamos de historias que te aprietan el corazón, no podemos dejar de lado a mi querida Colleen Hoover. Sus libros siempre me encantan, porque es la reina de la angustia bonita, de los giros inesperados y de los romances que duelen, pero que te dejan pensando.

Pues bien, a principios de este mes, me dio por la nostalgia y decidí sacar del estante un libro que leí hace ya varios años: "Maybe Someday". Y sí, caí de nuevo, ¡y caí duro! 🫠

"Maybe Someday" no es solo una novela; es una experiencia que mezcla música con emociones de una forma que solo Colleen sabe hacer. La historia se centra en Sydney, una chica cuya vida perfecta se desmorona en un instante. Justo en ese momento de caos, cruza caminos con su vecino, Ridge, un músico talentosísimo y misterioso que toca la guitarra en su balcón. La música es lo que los une: Sydney escribe las letras, y Ridge les pone melodía. Lo que hace que la novela sea tan adictiva, y por lo que volví a caer en la relectura, es la forma en que su relación se desarrolla.

Today's post is about one of my great loves: books. As you know, I've been a huge fan of reading for as long as I can remember. I got into the habit of devouring pages as fast as I could when I was about 14, and since then, my life without a good story is no life at all. And when it comes to stories that tug at your heartstrings, we can't leave out my beloved Colleen Hoover. I always love her books because she's the queen of beautiful anguish, unexpected twists, and romances that hurt but leave you thinking.

Well, earlier this month, I got nostalgic and decided to pull a book I read several years ago off the shelf: Maybe Someday. And yes, I fell for it again, and I fell hard! 🫠

Maybe Someday isn't just a novel; it's an experience that blends music with emotions in a way that only Colleen knows how to do. The story centers on Sydney, a girl whose perfect life falls apart in an instant. Just at that moment of chaos, she crosses paths with her neighbor, Ridge, a talented and mysterious musician who plays guitar on his balcony. Music is what brings them together: Sydney writes the lyrics, and Ridge sets them to music. What makes the novel so addictive, and why I fell back into rereading it, is the way their relationship develops.

• ​Sydney Blake: La protagonista, una chica universitaria que cree tenerlo todo resuelto: un buen novio y una compañera de apartamento que es su mejor amiga. El libro arranca cuando su vida perfecta se desmorona en un instante, obligándola a buscar dónde caer. Es un personaje fácil de querer porque es genuina, fuerte y sufre el típico golpe de realidad de la adultez temprana.

• ​Ridge Lawson: El vecino de Sydney, un músico talentosísimo y misterioso que toca la guitarra en su balcón. Lo más especial de él es que Ridge es sordo, lo cual le da una profundidad increíble al personaje y a su música. Él crea melodías, pero no puede escuchar las letras de su trabajo. Let me introduce you to the main characters in the story:

• Sydney Blake: The protagonist, a college girl who thinks she has it all figured out: a good boyfriend and a roommate who is her best friend. The book begins when her perfect life falls apart in an instant, forcing her to find a new place to land. She is an easy character to love because she is genuine, strong, and suffers the typical reality check of early adulthood.

• Ridge Lawson: Sydney's neighbor, a talented and mysterious musician who plays guitar on his balcony. What makes him special is that Ridge is deaf, which gives incredible depth to the character and his music. He creates melodies, but he can't hear the lyrics of his work. It's beautiful to see how their passion for lyrics and melodies creates a unique language between them. It's a love that can be felt, read, and heard, even if not with the ears.

Lo que hace que la novela sea tan adictiva, y por lo que volví a caer en la relectura, es la forma en que su relación se desarrolla, llena de prohibiciones y lealtad:

• ​Maggie, la novia de Ridge: Ella es la razón del gran conflicto. Maggie no es la villana, y eso es lo que más duele. Ella es una persona que ha pasado por mucho y su relación con Ridge es profunda y de larga data. Su presencia es un ancla moral para la historia.

​- Warren y Bridgette, los amigos complicados: Los compañeros de piso de Ridge, Warren y Bridgette, son la inyección de humor y locura que equilibra el drama.

What makes the novel so addictive, and why I fell back into rereading it, is the way their relationship develops, full of prohibitions and loyalty:

• Maggie, Ridge's girlfriend: She is the reason for the great conflict. Maggie is not the villain, and that's what hurts the most. She is a person who has been through a lot, and her relationship with Ridge is deep and long-standing. Her presence is a moral anchor for the story.

• Warren and Bridgette, the complicated friends: Ridge's roommates, Warren and Bridgette, are the injection of humor and madness that balances the drama.
  Warren is the typical friend who says what he thinks without a filter and uses humor to deal with tension. Bridgette is more reserved and sarcastic, but with a big heart.

The problem, and what keeps you reading, is that Ridge has a girlfriend. The tension between what they feel and what they “should” do is so palpable that it keeps you glued to the book until the end, thanks to the loyalty they all profess to each other.

Cuando leí este libro la primera vez, era una jovencita de 14 años que solo buscaba drama y romance intenso. Y sí, me dio todo eso. Ahora, con varios años de más (y un corazón que ha vivido más dramas), la relectura fue totalmente distinta: Esta vez, fui directamente a buscar las canciones reales que acompañan el libro (sí, ¡existen!). Escuchar las letras de Sydney cantadas por el artista Patrick (Griffin Peterson, quien colaboró con Colleen) le dio una capa de profundidad que me hizo sentir la historia de otra manera. Antes me enfocaba en "quédate con él, es más guapo". Ahora, entendí la complejidad ética y emocional de la situación. Me dolió ver a los personajes luchando por hacer lo correcto, incluso si eso les rompía el corazón. La autora maneja el tema de la lealtad y el sacrificio de una forma muy madura. Me encantó revivir la forma en que Colleen aborda la sordera de Ridge con tanto respeto y normalidad, mostrando que su "discapacidad" es simplemente otra característica de él, no un obstáculo para su talento o su capacidad de amar.

En resumen, "Maybe Someday" es una montaña rusa que, incluso después de años, sigue girando y te sigue dejando sin aliento. Si buscas un romance que te haga reflexionar sobre la vida, el amor, la amistad y lo que significa la lealtad, y si te gusta la música (¡y te encanta sufrir un poquito!), tienes que darle una oportunidad.

When I first read this book, I was a 14-year-old girl looking for drama and intense romance. And yes, it gave me all that. Now, several years older (and with a heart that has experienced more drama), rereading it was completely different: this time, I went straight to find the actual songs that accompany the book (yes, they exist!). Hearing Sydney's lyrics sung by the artist Patrick (Griffin Peterson, who collaborated with Colleen) added a layer of depth that made me feel the story differently. Before, I focused on “stay with him, he's more handsome.” Now, I understood the ethical and emotional complexity of the situation. It hurt to see the characters struggling to do the right thing, even if it broke their hearts. The author handles the themes of loyalty and sacrifice in a very mature way. I loved reliving the way Colleen approaches Ridge's deafness with such respect and normality, showing that his “disability” is simply another characteristic of him, not an obstacle to his talent or his ability to love.

In short, “Maybe Someday” is a roller coaster that, even after years, keeps spinning and leaves you breathless. If you're looking for a romance that makes you reflect on life, love, friendship, and what loyalty means, and if you like music (and love to suffer a little!), you have to give it a try.
