Hello! I believe I have finally recovered and should be able to write everyday once again. If you read my last travel post, you've seen that I have been to Vienna as a day trip. But where have I taken that day trip from? It was this beautiful capital of Slovakia - Bratislava!
While we have spent a few days here, we were held back a tiny bit by bad weather on one of the days, so we had to squeeze a bit more exploring in a bit less time. Even though that was the case, this city gave us pretty much only positive vibes. We spent our time walking around to see all the beautiful parts of Slovakia, as well as dining in extremely nice restaurants and cafes(or looking for a nice dining place).
Landmarks
Bratislava is - despite being a capital - just a very cosy city. While it is indeed full of landmarks and pretty sights, it still has the feel of a city that is pleasant to walk around and just go to as a weekend getaway without being overcrowded like in most European capitals. Let's start with the Blue Church:
From the outside..
.. And the inside. It's blue everywhere!
So why is it blue? Well, frankly, I don't really know. The internet says nothing about it, but the guide on our free walking tour mentioned religious reasons. If anyone from Bratislava is reading this, please let me know! No matter the reason, though, it is hard to argue that it is beautiful - looks a bit like a dollhouse more than a church from the outside.
Unknowingly, we made our way to Bratislava on festive days, which meant that the entrance to many of the buildings was free. We made good use of that, ensuring that we see as much as possible. While the centre of Bratislava does not exactly have tall buildings, we did climb the tallest tower to get a decent view of the city.
View of the tower from halfway there.
Panorama of the city center - with the castle visible in the far background.
I'd love to tell you what building this was in.. But it's been a while. Let's just keep it at the fact it was fancy and pretty.
In general, that is what we devoted our time to - entering old buildings, galleries and museums, as well as walking around the city center to enjoy the pretty little streets. Here's a fountain we found!
The Rest
We lived so close to the city center, however, that we also had time to explore it from other angles than just the most important landmarks, buildings or galleries. This is probably always my favourite part of city trips - there are usually no hikes to take, so I like to take time to just focus on smaller things that might be less known or are simply less crowded. That's what this part is about(and everything else, really).
My girlfriend is incredibly fond of these cute-looking cafes and restaurants, so I couldn't not include a picture from one of them! We did not even order there (we were in a hurry at the time), but somehow we managed to still stop and take a picture in there.
Among the many awesome food choices in the city, we also found this great restaurant you can see on the photo above. This was actually fairly far away from where we were staying, but definitely worth the visit! Something that was incredibly easy regarding our stay there is that, due to me being Polish, I could communicate with everyone quite easily - it always makes people act more kind to you when they can speak their own language!
That's us ready to go out for a fancy dinner. Bratislava actually welcomed us with a pretty large amount of food and bar choices!
We finished off our stay by going for a fancy dinner and then.. Then it was time to get back to reality.
Closing Words
Bratislava was great to go to, and I am definitely glad that we stayed there for more than just 1 day, like we did in Vienna. You can definitely see everything in a weekend, but staying a bit longer to enjoy it will for sure not make you bored!
