Guest Room
by Hydra
Last night was the opening of the Total Horror exhibition at the Voipaala Art Centre in Valkeakoski. The exhibition space is in a beautiful old manor that has stories of being haunted.
Our art group Hydra participated in this horror themed exhibition with the installation titled Guest Room
For this exhibition we created this cube, a separate room to move in the manor temporarily to hold our collaborative horror, for which the title partly refers to. The guest can also point to us as a group, borrowing our selves to the collaboration. In finnish the word vieras means a guest, but it also mean something strange or alien. It would be impossible to give a single meaning to this work as we are six individuals with alternating views, coming and going in conflicts and agreements to produce some monstrosity beyond the individual. Though that process put int the context of horror might be one way to look at it, but ultimately it becomes the burden of the viewer to find the meanings in it.
The work consists of variety of elements and explorations in techniques of sculpture and painting and modified readymade objects found from fleamarkets and trashcans. This is definitely a work to be experienced in person because of the sense of space and moving interactive parts, not to mention the incredible setting. However, here are some pictures of our contribution to the exhibition. Hope you enjoy.

Beside our work there are 10 other artists on displaying their take on the horror in variety of forms from painting and sculpture to video and computer games.
The exhibition is open till 4th of November
