I was on my computer when mom asked me to bring something from the local departmental store which is not far from my house. It's just a few steps away from my home and would take me five minutes max to finish the task and sit back on my computer. That's why I didn't shut down my computer nor did I leave it on sleep mode. It was running as it is, I kept everything on and left for the store.
Meanwhile, we got guests, including two kids. I was shocked to see one of them on my computer table playing with my keyboard. Actually, my keyboard has colorful backlit lights, and being mechanical it has an amazing clicky sound when pressed, so she was enjoying the combination and pressing one after another randomly with both hands. I was like, "Hi, little baby, let's watch cartoons together, what's your favorite cartoon?" She replied, "Diana and Roma." I opened youtube and searched for these particular names and played them, at least she stopped pressing my keyboard randomly. After a few minutes, they were taken to another room.
Isn't this a common scenario with you too? Haven't you experienced such things like you gave your phone or somehow a child got it and started pressing as they please? I bet you experienced or saw the same. Have you noticed one thing? They don't have the fear of getting into any problems while doing this, they don't even understand that the functions might malfunction too. These devices might get corrupted, and they just look for what they want, maybe it's a cartoon or a pleasure they found while playing with this. And this is the instinct that helps them to learn something quickly, at least this is what from my observations.
Listen, I have nephews and they are approximately three and four years old. They know how to operate an android phone, I meant the basics, like youtube, gallery, calling, and rejecting a call. One funny thing, the younger one among these two is the cleaver one. Trust me, I never noticed the voice search button on youtube search but she knows that and uses it properly. She would press that icon, take the phone near her mouth, and speak the names she would want to watch. Can you believe it? I was totally surprised on the first day after witnessing this. They are quick learners.
On the other hand, my mom and dad, they are aged now. For them, their classic button phones are the most preferable ones. Both of them have their separate android ones but they are rarely interested in them. Mom would watch a few Islamic or cooking videos or just use them to communicate with my elder brother who lives abroad. My dad is also the same, he doesn't have much interest in this, he is in love with his button one as he feels comfortable.
Both of them find it complex to operate or to learn. They have a fear that if they do something wrong there might be a malfunction. Due to this fear, they don't even try anything new on their own whereas a little kid would explore everything on their own as they are indifferent to any damage their actions might cause. They just satisfy their curiosity and learn everything while those two adults get the hindrance due to their understanding that their wrong inputs might corrupt it. This keeps them away from learning anything new or makes the learning path slow.
Fear has always been the barrier to learning or achieving something. Unless we can tackle that instinct, nothing would come out properly.
