Every August Calgary has an international festival called Global Fest. The highlight is an international fireworks competition that takes place over several nights.

The event itself takes place in Elston park which has a large pond that separates the crowds from the fireworks area. The effect it creates is stunning with the way the bursts reflect off the water.

I am always striving to take better shots each time I go. I find my 35mm lens is a great focal length and gives me a nice angle for the event. I usually position myself fairly close to the water with my tripod.

Most of the shots I get are taken in 3-5 sec long exposures. With so much going on at once I try to get as many shots as I can considering that each exposure is longer and the fireworks run for about 10-15 minutes.
