Hello Hiveians
Today I learnt the basic contour guide and rules for cutting a princess dart. Why it is also important and necessary in garment construction.
I got some pattern paper and practised with it.
Here the basic bodice is constructed and using the bust span measurements of 4 inches you can the the round bust measurements I have made on the pattern paper.
Contouring is important in garment construction and we have close to 7 or more contour guide for different dart locations.
This helps keeps clothes firm in the body for instance.
The bust dart and under bust contour makes clothes firm around the bust area and sometimes it is very easy to put on this garment without an inner brassiere.
In various designs of wedding dreses contouring is done during the pattern drafting and a bride may not need a brassiere under her beautiful white dress.
The neckline contour keeps designs like a monostrap firm around the neck area such that you don't have any gapings.
Monostraps and off shoulder designs are tricky and if care is not given the bust ends up coming out through that place when someone put such outfits on.
I have seen the bust come out of a brides dress at a reception dance party, it was so embarrassing but I realized how a simple contouring could have helped prevent such and probably the dress was made by a tailor who has no idea about what contouring means.
In a next episode of our contour guide I will take us through the basic illustration on how to contour a basic bodice.
This is a practical dress making process am still working on, an off shoulder dress for my cousin.
Stay tuned 🙏
