Venom is a 2018 Thriller/Sci Fi movie released yesterday 5th October here in Nigeria. I watched it at the Filmhouse Cinema, Samonda Ibadan. For those who'll like to go see the movie at Filmhouse Samonda, their show times are 12:15pm, 2:30pm, 4:50pm, 7:00pm, 9:10pm from now and until Thursday 11th October 2018. The 3 main characters/stars were Tom Hardy as investigative reporter, Eddie Brock (Venom), Riz Ahmed as Notorious founder of Life Foundation, Carlton Drake (Riot) and Michelle Williams as lawyer for Life Foundation, Anne Weying.
Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
Marvel did it again and this movie was a hit for me. Tom hardy and Riz Ahmed both brought their A-games on in this movie. Stop reading right here if you don't want spoilers...sooooowwwwieee...lol.
Tom Hardy was Eddie Brock, the slightly recalcitrant investigative reporter who wouldn't follow his boss's orders. He had a niggling hunch that Carlton Drake, the Founder of Life Foundation was into some really bad stuff. In his quest for the truth, he underhandedly sneaks through his girlfriend's private mail and discovers damaging confidential information as she is a lawyer with Life Foundations. Eddie uses this information while questioning Drake, causing both him and his girlfriend to lose their jobs. She breaks up with him immediately, unable to deal with his recalcitrance and irresponsibility. Eddie soon discovers he has shot himself in the foot as he can't seem to get over her and also cannot get a job anywhere.
Six months later, he is codedly contacted by Dora Skirth, one of the Life Foundation scientists who disagrees with her boss's methods. Drake's team had found 4 Alien Symbiotes during a space probe and had brought them back to earth. One of the symbiotes escaped and landed in Malaysia, possessing people as it worked its way back towards the other three. The other 3 were successfully delivered to the Life Foundation laboratories and Drake had then begun experimenting on them, trying to bind a symbiote with a human being in an audacious bid to prepare mankind for evolution. Drake had also began illegally testing the binding process on vagrants off the streets, against his team's advice. Most of the human subjects died after binding with the symbiotes. This was unacceptable to Dora.
Dora sneaks Eddie into the lab and in an unfortunate twist of events, Eddie becomes bonded with one of the symbiotes and manages to escape the facility with new, strange superhuman abilities. Drake found out Dora's betrayal and kills her with another symbiote which also dies alongside its host. Eddie's symbiote introduces itself to him as "Venom" and they begin to live as a hybrid, both dependent on Eddie's body for survival. Venom persuades Eddie to form an alliance, so that he can experience life through him, while Eddie gets to enjoy the superhuman attributes the symbiote affords him. We subsequently see Venom take on Eddie's humane personality, toning down its own very violent personality to better survive with Eddie. Their relationship is awesome, humorous, funny, entertaining and absolutely winsome. Meanwhile, Drake somehow bonds with the other surviving symbiote named Riot and both of them form a very evil alliance that Venom and Eddie must deal with.
I will stop here so you still get to enjoy a little suspense when you see the movie...hehehehe. Trust me, this was a winner. It was an action packed visual eye candy and a beautiful auditory delight. Venom has the sexiest, grittiest, reptile voice I've ever heard and its relationship with its host is amazingly refreshing. This is definitely a must watch for all Sci-Fi/Thriller lovers.
Cheers and thanks for reading!
