In my personal Mindful Monday post last week I touched on taking a vacation, getting away to clear your mind. I had just gotten home (quite literally) so it was fresh in my mind. I wanted to cover this aspect a little bit more. More from the aspect of 'taking a break'. I know from personal experience that taking an actual vacation is just not feasible. Yet if we don't get away in some manner we feel as though we are going stir crazy. We let the monotony of daily life interfere with living. Yes we need to work, eat, have a roof over our heads, sleep. But... Do we have to live our lives going from one point to the next? NO we don't. For our own personal well-being we need to 'make' ourselves take breaks. Mind you I am not talking about the 10 to 15 minutes you might get during working hours. I am talking about taking the time to stop. Stop racing, stop overworking yourself and enjoy life. Stop and smell the roses 😝
There are so many things you can do that don't cost anything or hardly anything. I found this picture a while back (all crediting is on the bottom) I think it's a great reminder of simple things we can do to break up the monotony. One of the things mentioned (go to a body of water) is essential for me. I grew up on the beaches of Southern California. As I got older when I was feeling really stressed it was my go to place. I would sit in the sand, stare at the waves and the stars. Just breathing, smelling and marvelling at the beauty that surrounded me. I wondered for a long time why I seemed more peaceful when I was younger, it is because I no longer have a beach I can go to. I do have lakes, rivers and waterfalls around me. Water is extremely soothing. The sound it makes, from a brook to a river to an ocean are all different yet they are similar. The color of the water, the temperature of it. All things to look at while you are there will keep you entertained😊 .
Take a look at the list see what you can fit in this week and in the future. Share things that you do that aren't on the list. Give others ideas on what they can do. If you are one of those people that love being nose deep in work to where you don't have to think of anything else, more power to you. Each of us have our own mechanisms that alert us to when we are overdue for a break, we just need to listen.
