Ulan Ulan Falls is one of the most spectacular falls in Biliran province and is nestled within the province's lush forests. It is located in the dead end of Sampao, Almeria, Biliran.
Its name "Ulan" means "rain" in the local dialect as it gives misty spray like of a light rain specially when the water pressure is so strong. It has a height of 90 feet. It is surrounded by dense tropical forest. It was known to be the coldest waterfall in the province and the must place to cool off during hot season.
It is too far from the National Road so it is advisable to come here through a private transport or you can rent a motorbike in town. There is a guard house in which you have to pay an entrance fee of 20.00 per person and you have to write your details in their logbook such as your name and address. There is also a wide parking area. After paying for the entrance you can start going down the trail from the signage which usually takes ten minutes to reach the waterfalls. As you get closer, he gushing sound from the waterfalls gets stronger and you can see the glimpse of the waterfall.
You can bring your own food though there are a few stores nearby but they already sell goods in a higher price because it is already a remote area. So it is really advisable the you bring your own food or buy it from the town. We usually eat at the rocks nearby the falls when the water pressure is not so strong. We used to come here on a sunny weather and enjoy some food we bought together with friends. Since there are no cottages around the falls you can find just find a safe spot nearby the waterfalls and lay there your food. This time, I came only with my brother.
It has been a long time since I came to the place and I was glad to see improvements like the handrails on the stair which is completely cemented and the view deck. Previously it was still muddy and slippery. The weather is not good during our visit because there is an upcoming typhoon. We just came to past time while waiting for someone. The path leading to the waterfalls is quite scary this time maybe because it is already late in the afternoon, the weather is gloomy plus the dense forest. Plus, all I heard are sound coming from insects and birds.
It's just my brother and I who came and there's nobody around maybe because of the bad weather. We also did not get to pay an entrance fee.
We just got to witness the falls from the deck because the water pressure is so strong today that we also got wet from the water splash so we can no longer go near to the falls. Usually people gathered down the rocks to swim around the falls and even dive which is really a scary thing.
After a few minutes taking of pictures, we went back to our way to the proper town to fetch someone.
So glad to be able to share this with you. Thanks for reading. Love Nes.
