Hi everybody. I hope you are alright. In Indonesia, Ramadan has entered, meaning it is time for Muslims to fast for 1 month. That is fun. I look forward to it every year. There are many traditions that we do every Ramadan. We do syllables with friends and friends. The most enjoyable thing is that I can visit my friends who are of different religions, Christians.
In Bandung, every third week of Ramadan, we do iftar together with my Christian friends. In fact, we celebrated in a church. It's fun for me, and it looks really beautiful. This time, I will review the design and architecture of a church in Jakarta, namely the Santa Theresia Church in Jakarta. This church I've been to before the Pandemic. During the pandemic, I visited him. For me, this church has a beautiful and magnificent design and architecture.
Some touches of European-style design and architecture give a different impression. This church is located in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. The plan of this church resembles a Greek cross. This is a sign that this design is very different from other church designs and architectures, such as the Jakarta Cathedral Church, I have reviewed this before. This church chose the face of the building with an asymmetrical shape. Overall the building remains symmetrical. The asymmetry can be seen from the front of the building.
In fact, from some of the information I got, this church is known as the design and architecture of Indis culture, indis is defined as there is a mixture of design and architecture of Indonesian culture. The designer's character is influenced because this church is the first Catholic church in Jakarta. When viewed from the front, this church has a high roof and has no supports. It made the altar look in the direction. And, this makes this church cool and cool. In fact, in Central Jakarta, it is said to be a cool area. There are many tall trees with old age.
For the interior of the church, there is a stained glass window that has a very beautiful color. Adding to the impression that this church is very luxurious. In addition, the glass can make the sunlight that enters the church produce a different light. Inside the church, there are three doors, above each door, there is a large window. Circumstances show that this church has European design and architecture.
In the large window above the main door, there is a picture of Saint Therese. On the side door are pictures of Saint Ignatius de loyala (founder of the Society of Jesus) and Saint Francis Xavier. Behind the altar, there is a window larger than the one in the door. There are 13 small windows. In the middle, depicts Jesus. On the right and left depict the 12 apostles
There is something unique about this church, they use English in every Mass. What's interesting about this church is that it is still connected to the Jakarta Cathedral. The distance between Menteng and the cathedral church is quite far. Moreover, in 1930, there were no vehicles that could be used. So, one of the administrators of the Jakarta Cathedral Church decided to build the Santa Theresia church in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta. The goal is for Christians to live in the Menteng area, not far away to worship.
In 1933, this church was built. Curious who designed this place? This place was designed by a Dutch architect named J.Th Van Oyen who was commissioned by the administrators of the Jakarta Cathedral Church. The church construction did not take long. Within a year, people inaugurated this church. This church was inaugurated by a priest A. Th Van Hoof SJ. The Chairperson of the Church of St Therese Church was brought by Pastor Van Hoof SJ.
