Happy Sunday, friends! Here I am again, taking you on one of my trips. Today I was craving autumn views and nature, so my husband and I took a short trip to the Castagno station. We were actually hoping to find some chestnuts, and several people had recommended this old station nestled among the chestnut trees for a good harvest, but unfortunately the chestnuts were still unripe.
This station is located on a semi-hidden road in the woods near the village of Castagno. Many people go there for both chestnuts and mushrooms. It's an area made up almost entirely of woods, a lovely spot for nature lovers. In fact, as soon as we arrived at the station, we immediately took a walk in the woods, which were already displaying autumn colors. The road to the station is also very beautiful, winding through mountain and woodland views. Before reaching the station, there are several very beautiful villas, a church, and a few houses. The road then leads to a hidden side in the woods that leads to the station. Now I'll tell you a little about this station, which is also a stop on CAI trails, an association that manages mountain and hill trails. The station is part of the Porrettana line, a historic line that passes through various villages in the Tuscan-Emilian mountains before reaching Bologna.

隆Feliz domingo, amigos! Aqu铆 estoy de nuevo, llev谩ndolos de viaje. Esper谩bamos encontrar casta帽as, y varias personas nos hab铆an recomendado esta antigua estaci贸n enclavada entre casta帽os para una buena cosecha, pero por desgracia las casta帽as a煤n estaban verdes. Mucha gente va all铆 tanto para recoger casta帽as como setas.
The Porrettana line is a historic line that's still active today, but not all its stations are. This Castagno station is still open, especially in the summer because there's a lovely cool pool in the woods near the station, much loved by city dwellers. As you can see from the photos, this station is really small, with only one platform.
There's a small hut with train timetables and another hut whose purpose I'm not sure is what it's for. There are also various signs with maps and trails for hiking enthusiasts. It's a small but really cute station, a relaxing place to take a walk in the woods and perhaps stop for a moment to wait for the train. This station was opened later than others in the Pistoia Apennines, in the 1960s to increase tourism in the small mountain villages. At the time, Castagno was a holiday resort. Today, it's practically a village with very few inhabitants, and even the station was deserted during our stay. But it was still a pleasant trip to a mountain destination.
