As I always say, school is a fun-filled environment because you get to interact with people, make friends, and attend lectures if you wish. At this point, nobody forces anyone to do anything. One funny period in school is exam season. I choose to call it a season because it is a time when everyone suddenly becomes so spiritual and serious.
During exams, the tension increases, especially if you are a freshman. You begin to think about how to cover both the topics that were taught and those that were not. You try to read the things you understood during lectures and the ones you did not. At this time, most social activities and engagements reduce because there is no excuse for failure. You can barely sleep for up to four hours a night. Truly, “school sweet, na exams spoil am.”
Personally, I had my own share of ups and downs during exams. But I discovered a way to manage the tension. First, even before the exam timetable is released, I make sure to read every course I take. No matter how little time I give to a course, I ensure I read it so that when exams come, what was taught will not seem strange to me.
Also, I am not the type that enjoys night classes or group reading. Whenever I want to do intensive reading, I lock myself in my room and read either late at night or very early in the morning. When I am alone in my room, I am certain there will be no distractions. If you ever see me in a night class or group reading, it means there is something I did not understand and I want others to explain it to me, or we have a group practical to do. But for serious reading, I stay in my room.
Again, I do not enjoy reading for long hours, so I take breaks while studying. I either leave the reading table to watch a movie for about 30 minutes or go through social media before returning to my books. If I read in the afternoon, I make sure to take a short walk in the evening, come back, shower, and continue reading.
Doing these things really helped me during exams.
