Mega Skills With The Ol' #2 Pencil
This is a 10 minute sketch that my wife Amanda made of me while I was taking a power nap.
It was July 13th of 2006 - almost exactly 14 years ago. We had just met, actually! I had only been hanging out with her for a month or so. I must have dozed off for a quick nap when my future life partner decided to do a quick sketch of me.
At the time I still had no idea that she could even draw!
When I woke up, she was still messing with it and I said something like,
Holy crap! I was only out for like 15 minutes!
She corrected me by stating that it had only been about 10 minutes and she wasn't done. But she went ahead and stopped anyway. It seems kind of funny to me now, since she is a professional artist who does this sort of thing every day for a living.
A lot of people think that artists just fart work out through some magical talent that they were born with. I believe that most people are born with some level of artistic talent. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to develop the skills that professional painters and illustrators possess.
So the next time you meet an artist and appreciate their work, think about that fact. Instead of saying 'Wow! You are really talented!" Perhaps say something like "Wow! What skillful work!"
It may seem like a small thing, but it will mean a lot to them. Thanks for looking!
