Different people have their own way of doing things. Different cultural and traditional practices exists. The way I do my things is different from the way Mr A does their things. We have different modes of reaching our destinations and we have different ways of living as well.
Though the route is different, the most important thing is to reach there with minimal damages.
However, in other for two to work in harmony, they must be able to tolerate, or should I say, accommodate one another. Without this, then there can never be a peaceful existence between two people.
According to the dictionary as see in image above, diversity means The quality of being diverse or different; difference or unlikeness.
I would not say that it is not good to be different. However, I will say that depending on how different. If a person is different with good impact, then that is good. But if they are different but have no good impact, then that is not good.
Like I said, we all have different ways in which we don't things. Some follow the fast way while some go through the slow and steady way. The only important thing here is the outcome and the amount of damage gotten during the process.
Tolerance on the other hand, which is the ability to accommodate and tolerate what other people do, can be taught in two ways.
The first way is by being an example to the young and growing ones,or by being example to any one.
The second is by educating about the importance of tolerating other people. Show them the flaws that comes with the inability to tolerate others and show them the gains that comes with the ability to tolerate other people.
Growing up as a child, I was exposed t many different people with different cultures.
I grew up in the northern part of Nigeria, where there are tons of tribes and cultures. Different languages spoken. they say children subconsciously learn the language they hear when they were young, but I could not learn any of those languages because they were many. The only language I was able to learn was Hausa.
I saw different cultural practices. The Tiv, Efik, Yoruba, Delta and many of them. We all lived together as one in the neighborhood.
Though each and everyone do mind their business and go about their day, we come together once in a while t enjoy the company of each other.
Come to think of it now, it surprises me how we live in harmony, without any fights or quarrels. Its really something yaknow.
Looking back at it now, I will say that it has helped in shaping my person. I really love it. I got to coexist with different people that are not my tribe men. During that time, I could not even speak my native language as I was happy living with other people.
This has helped me a lot. I can accommodate any one, tolerate their nonsense because I have lived with different people when I was younger. But well, this doesn't mean anyone can piss on my legs though. Haha.
Thank you for reading.
