Crystal Palace got their first win of the season under the new manager emphatically. Spurs have been winning 1-0 before now and remain unbeaten in the league with a perfect start but their performances have been unconvincing nonetheless, they always get the needed win but not this time. Palace gave them a run for their money and beat the visitors by 3 goals with no reply.
The new boy; Edouard got two goals on debut after Zaha gave Palace the lead with a penalty. Zaha had never scored against Tottenham before and what a way for him to break that jinx. Gallagher had been the only scorer for Palace this season and now, Zaha and Edouard has gotten on the list.
Tottenham were riddled with injuries as Bergwijn and Son were both out injured. Tottenham's new boy came in at right-back for his debut as Lucas Moura and Harry Winks started too. Tottenham started the game being top of the league but events took the worst for them when they lost Eric Dier after 12 minutes to injury. In the same game, Tottenham also got a red card and left them a man short again at the back which further complicated things for them. Palace showed fight and determination in taking the game to Tottenham and they got their reward with a 3-0 victory.
Zaha became a menace to the new boy; Emerson Royal at the right-back and in the 42nd minute Zaha made a brilliant run and turn before he dazzled with his feet to find Gallagher right inside the box. It was a tight angle from close range and Gallagher tried to get the ball past the goalkeeper but Hugo Lloris managed to block the effort for a corner kick. The resulting corner was headed wide by Christian Benteke.
In the 47 minutes after the restart in the second half, Tottenham had their first shot on target in the game when Lucas Moura fired his shot but it was an easy save for the goalkeeper. At least it was an encouraging attempt from the Spurs. Gallagher and Zaha continued causing problems for Tottenham.
Palace should have taken the lead in the 50th minute but confusion set in as Gallagher and Benteke both went for the same volley which prevented Gallagher from having a clean strike but still, they managed to get a corner kick.
It went from bad to worse for Tottenham in the 58th minute after Tanganga received his second yellow for a clumsy challenge. He initially got his first one after a tussle with Zaha that saw both men booked. The defensive woes for Tottenham continued with their loss of Eric Dier earlier in the game to injury and now the suspension of Tanganga in addition to the injuries they have suffered. Ben Davies had to be introduced and Harry Winks was taken out.
Ayew wasted a lovely chance in the 60th minute right inside the box. He volleyed wide and what a goal it would have been on his 30th birthday and the last time he scored also was 30 games before then. 6 minutes after, Zaha produced his magic yet again inside the box and found Ayew but this time, Ayew's attempt was on target but denied by a block from Dele Alli. Not long after, Reguillon saved a goal-bound effort with his headed clearance but the whole team had no answer in the 74th minute when Gallagher's ball into the box struck the hand of substitute, Ben Davies. The referee rightly pointed to the spot and Zaha stepped up to convert the ball by sending Lloris the wrong way to register his first goal against Spurs.
Edouard had only been on the pitch in less than 30 seconds in the 84th minute when Zaha found him and he buried his chance. The new boy wasn't done as he added his 2nd and Palace's 3rd in the 93rd minute after a brilliant counter-attack that involves Ayew and Gallagher. Gallagher found Edouard who wasted no time to smash home the second goal of his debut.
It looks encouraging for Palace going forward and Tottenham would need to produce results in their next game despite the suspension and the injuries so it won't be another season to forget especially for Harry Kane who had a change of heart to stay with the Spurs. Palace duly deserved their victory.
