It was a holiday and Saint Peter guessed it was a festive day and took a break from the rain for a few hours. We went to Leça da Palmeira to celebrate my sister's birthday, and after lunch in a wonderful restaurant, we had to stretch our legs to digest the food. It was then that we decided to go to Quinta da Conceição, one of the best kept secrets in this coastal area.

Era feriado e São Pedro adivinhou que era dia de festa e deu um descanso da chuva durante algumas horas .Fomos Leça da Palmeira para celebrar o aniversário da minha irmã, e depois de um almoço num restaurante maravilhoso, tínhamos de esticar as pernas para digerir a comida. Foi então que decidimos ir até à Quinta da Conceição, um dos segredos mais bem guardados desta zona costeira.
A simple gate gives access to a world apart. The vegetation is dense and varied and the paths are made of stone. It's hard to imagine that we are so close to houses and even the beach, because inside you can only breathe calm, history and nature. Quinta da Conceição is not just a beautiful garden. It dates back to the 15th century, when the Convent of Our Lady of the Conception was established here, occupied by Franciscan friars. There are still preserved ruins of the old convent, including a stone cloister, ancient fountains and structures that tell the story of the passing of the centuries.

Um portão simples dá acesso a um mundo à parte. A vegetação é densa e variada e os caminhos em pedra. É difícil imaginar que estamos tão perto de casas e até da praia, pois ali dentro respira-se apenas calma, história e natureza. A Quinta da Conceição não é só um jardim bonito. Remonta ao século XV, altura em que aqui se instalou o Convento de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, ocupado por frades franciscanos. Ainda existem ruínas preservadas do antigo convento, incluindo um claustro em pedra, fontes antigas e estruturas que contam a passagem dos séculos.
The space is spacious and well-kept, with tall trees that provide shade and corners that invite you to slow down. The landscape mixes the rustic features of the old buildings with modern interventions, the result of the work of Fernando Távora, responsible for the renovation of the farm in the 20th century.

O espaço é amplo e bem cuidado, com árvores altas que oferecem sombra e recantos que convidam a que se abrande. A paisagem mistura o traço rústico das construções antigas com intervenções modernas, fruto do trabalho de Fernando Távora, responsável pela renovação da quinta no século XX.
We passed by the swimming pool designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira (another great name in national architecture) which draws attention even when closed. We can also see the tennis court and further ahead some benches that allowed us to stop and rest.

Passámos junto à piscina desenhada por Álvaro Siza Vieira (outro grande nome da arquitectura nacional) que, chama à atenção mesmo fechada. Podemos ver ainda, o campo de ténis e mais adiante alguns bancos que permitiam parar e descansar.
The tour around Quinta da Conceição ended up being the perfect complement to a day of celebration. There are places that impress us with their simplicity and authenticity. Quinta da Conceição is one of those places. A discreet refuge, where history and nature merge. Anyone passing through Leça should visit. After all, it is in the most unexpected places that we often find the most special moments.

O passeio pela Quinta da Conceição acabou por ser o complemento perfeito a um dia de festa. Há lugares que nos marcam pela simplicidade e autenticidade. A Quinta da Conceição é um desses lugares. Um refúgio discreto, onde a história e a natureza se fundem. Quem passa por Leça, devia visitar. Afinal, é nos sítios mais inesperados que muitas vezes encontramos os momentos mais especiais.
