For the past two years the heat waves in my country have been quite alarming. The intensity of the sun makes it feel like we are directly close to the sun or that the gate of hell has been unleashed on my country. The sun is usually so scourgingly hot that it sometimes feels like your shoe might literally melt away, mostly in the northern part of the country. Currently we are in the rainy season, so the heat is a bit mild here; the heat is usually severe during the dry season compared to the current rainy season.
These are several strategies I have adopted to manage the heat during the dry season.
Firstly, I ensure my house is usually ventilated by keeping all my windows open most times, allowing fresh air to circulate everywhere even when using the fan; this helps in removing stale air and also reduces how stuffy the room is. Sometimes the fresh air from outside makes the room cooler; during hot periods it's usually as if the fan is blowing more heat because the air is usually hot.
During the heat period I try as much as possible to stay hydrated because when it's usually hot, our body loses fluid through sweating, so we need to stay hydrated to replace these lost fluids. I make sure I have water with me at all times, especially when I am outside. Staying hydrated when the weather is hot helps the body function properly and also helps in maintaining energy levels.
During the heat period I have rechargeable fans I use both indoors and outdoors. Since we don't always get a stable light, having this actually handy and important.
I also use umbrellas when going; this helps to provide shade and also protect my body from direct sun exposure.
Most importantly, the type of clothes to wear during the heat period is very necessary. I usually wear light and breathable clothes; this allows for better airflow and also allows the sweat to evaporate faster and keeps me feeling cooler, and it also makes me feel more comfortable.
