Dealing with paperwork is not my thing, and I think it’s the same for most people. Paperwork is one of those obligations we don’t like to do, but inevitably we have to. Doing it in my city, Ezeiza, is already quite a hassle. So, just imagine going all the way to downtown Buenos Aires. Luckily, I take it as a day off, hop on my bike so I don’t feel so alone, and head out on the journey.
! [Spanish] Realizar trámites no es lo mío y creo que de la mayoría de las personas. Los trámites son esas obligaciones que no nos gustan realizar, pero indefectiblemente tenemos que hacerlo. Realizarlo en mi ciudad Ezeiza ya me cuesta mucho. Así que imagínense ir a capital federal. Por suerte yo lo tomo, como un día libre y tomo mi bicicleta para no sentirme tan solo y voy a la travesía.
It’s worth mentioning that if the day is cloudy or rainy, I try a thousand ways to put off leaving. But on this day, I had no excuses. It was wonderful, with splendid sunshine and warm temperatures, a perfect prelude to the upcoming spring in Argentina.
! [Spanish] Cabe aclarar que si el día está nublado o llueve, intento mil formas para desestimar mi partida. Pero este día no tenía ninguna excusa. Estaba maravilloso, con un sol espléndido y una temperatura cálida, como preámbulo a la inminente primavera en Argentina.

Each day I become more convinced that everything is in our minds. We imagine endless lines, complaints from dissatisfied people, and a general sense of discomfort while doing paperwork. But it doesn’t always turn out that way, and this time was no exception. Everything was solved almost immediately, so I set off to take a ride around the area with my aluminum, two-wheeled companion.
! [Spanish] Cada día me convenzo más que todo está en nuestra mente. Imaginamos filas interminables, reclamos de personas insatisfechas y un malestar en general de la gente realizando los trámites. Pero no siempre sucede de esa manera y este fue el caso. Todo resuelto y casi de manera inmediata, me dispongo a dar una vuelta por la zona con mi compañera de aluminio, de dos ruedas.
And I come across something truly unexpected. A stainless-steel monument with its own peculiarities. I had seen it several times on Instagram, and it had always caught my attention, but this time it appeared before me in an unexpected way. According to the presentation, Floralis Genérica it was created by architect Eduardo Catalano as a tribute to the city of Buenos Aires. I don’t know the full story, but I can’t help but wonder what went through this man’s mind to design a metal flower with different functions. I imagine there must be thousands of interpretations, depending on each observer’s perspective. In my case, I believe flowers may seem short-lived, but in reality, they always return, and if one takes care of them and nurtures them, even more so. That’s why he made it out of stainless steel.
! [Spanish] Y me encuentro con algo realmente inesperado. Un monumento de acero inoxidable que tiene sus peculiaridades. Lo vi en varias ocasiones en Instagram y siempre me llamó la atención, pero esta vez apareció frente a mí de manera inesperada. Según dice la presentación, Floralis Genérica lo realizó el arquitecto Eduardo Catalano, y es un homenaje a la ciudad de Buenos Aires. No conozco bien la historia, pero simplemente atino a pensar, qué pasó por la cabeza de este hombre para crear una flor de metal y con distintas funciones. Estimo que habrá miles de interpretaciones, según la perspectiva de cada observador. En mi caso, creo que las flores parecieran que duran poco tiempo, pero en realidad, siempre vuelven a estar y si uno lo cuida y estimula, más aún. De ahí, que lo hizo de acero inoxidable.
I understand that at night its petals close and they open during the day. That’s what people in the area told me, and when I arrived, they were open. At its base, according to what I saw on Instagram, it usually has water, but this time it was completely dry. I was amazed by the majesty of the work, and I loved how it surprised me in the middle of my everyday life.
! [Spanish] Tengo entendido que por las noches sus pétalos se cierran y se abren de día. Eso fue lo que me comentaron los transeúntes de la zona y cuando llegué estaban abiertos. En su base, según vi en Instagram, normalmente tiene agua, pero en esta ocasión estaba realmente seco. Me quedé maravillado por la majestuosidad de la obra y me encantó que me sorprenda en mi cotidianidad.
It is located on Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, very close to the Palermo Woods, an iconic spot in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. I was able to walk around a bit more and capture the calm of Buenos Aires mornings. After eating and drinking something—and of course, taking some time to contemplate such beauty I got ready to head back, since I don’t live that close to the place.
! [Spanish] Se encuentra por la avenida Figueroa Alcorta, muy cerca de los bosques de Palermo, lugar emblemático de la ciudad autónoma de Buenos Aires. Pude recorrerlo un rato más y capturar la pasividad de las mañanas bonaerenses. Luego de comer algo y beber y por supuesto contemplar un rato tanta belleza, me predispuse a volver porque no estoy tan cerca del lugar.
I think it’s wonderful when life surprises you with these small moments, and all you can do is simply give thanks. I believe these monuments speak to us about who we were, who we are, and keep the history of different creators alive in the middle of the big city.
! [Spanish] Me parece genial cuando la vida te sorprende con estos pequeños momentos y uno lo que atina siempre a realizar es simplemente agradecer. Creo que estos monumentos, nos hablan de lo que fuimos, lo que somos y mantienen viva la historia de diferentes autores, en medio de la gran ciudad.
I hope these spaces are preserved forever and that the big city vibrates in harmony with these natural resources, so important for the large number of people living in the area. On weekends, and even more so during spring and summer, these places fill with people from nearby neighborhoods and even from farther away, as in my case. May life continue to surprise us!
