Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.
We are almost at the end of another season of Splinterlands and like always we are forming new strategies and trying out new units and just experimenting a lot. This week I will talk about another interesting unit that I use a lot in my battles but it I have not talked about it much. I am talking about "Diemonshark". This is a rare water unit that came out in the Chaos Legion pack. It is one of the strongest tanks in this element. I will show you why, let's take a look at its stats in detail.
Diemonshark
Diemonshark is a strong rare unit from the water element. It is both a powerful attacker and defender. Costing 8 mana it justifies this cost easily with its strong melee attack damage with quick speed. It comes with a lot of health and armor so it becomes an avid defender and can be used as a tank in your lineup.
I had a level 4 unit which deals 3 melee attack damage with a quick speed (4). It comes with a huge amount of health, 8 hp to be exact and 6 shields which makes it a perfect candidate to be used as a tank in the first position. It comes with two strong and useful abilities: Trample and Enrage, both of which made it even more deadly.
Let's see how I utilized it in one of my battles. Any guesses? xD
My Lineup
This is my lineup for the battle
It was only a 24-mana cap battle and had the following rulesets:
Aim True: Attacks always hit their target.
Taking sides: Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles.
Only Water, Dragon and Death elements were active during this battle. With just 24 mana and limited no of elements with no neutral monsters, I had to be very careful on how I choose my lineup.
I used the Keyla Frendul as my summoner. It gave extra armour and +1 speed to all my monsters.
I used the Diemonshark in the first position. That was no surprise as it is one of the best tanks in the entire game and not just for soaking damage it deals a lot of damage as well, especially with its 'Enrage' and 'Trample' abilities it becomes a game-changer in battles. A strong tank at the front of the lineup allowed me to use some weaker but attacking units at the middle and end of the lineup.
In the next position, I used the Torrent Fiend. This was a zero mana unit and since I didn't have the luxury to spend much mana I used this at the second position. I didn't expect much from this unit as I used it just as a sacrificial unit (to take one or two hits and kind of shield the next unit in my lineup).
Speaking of the next, I had a ranged attacker this time, I knew I was using ranged attack this early in the game but I was confident about my Diemonshark to hold the front line for long. So, Merdhampir was sitting patiently in the third position dealing with 2 ranged attacks and had the 'life leech' ability which helps it last even longer so the 4 health points are enough.
Kulu Swimhunter came in the next position, it was another ranged attacker dealing 2 attack damage as well. Costing only 4 mana but having good speed and health was a plus point for this unit.
Ice Pixie came in the next position, this was the only mage in my lineup which costs just 2 mana but attacks with good speed and also has the 'flying' ability which helps it to dodge more attacks from melee and ranged attackers. A unit that comes in handy when you are having less mana to spare.
Last but not least was Igor Darkspear. Yet another ranged attacker dealing 2 ranged attacks but costing only 2 mana. A very useful unit to be used in case of low mana battles. It comes with a relatively good amount of health while costing just 2 mana. However, this has no abilities which is still okay for its cost.
Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.
I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.
My Strategy
Because of only 24 mana to spare and some other limitations on rulesets and elements, I had to choose my lineup very carefully and strategies accordingly. I went for a strong tank at the start and what other than Diemonshark can fill that role?
Not only it was a brilliant defender but had an equally good attack if not better. The huge amount of health and extra shields along with armour given by my summoner made my front line very strong. I then used the triple ranged attack each doing at least 2 attack damage with good speed. That helped me get a much stronger attacking strength overall.
This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me an easy win in the end.
My opponent expected me to use a magic attacker and used the Thaddius Brood as their summoner hoping to decrease my magic damage. They even used a strong tank in the form of Cursed Windeku at the front.
But their strategy failed miserably in the first round only as their tank was eliminated quickly while I had a strong tank at the front of the lineup. They divided their attack by using a couple of 'sneak' monsters which failed to take down anyone.
Round 2 was a nightmare for them as my Diemonshark eliminated two units one after the other by utilizing its trample ability. This just evaporated the hopes of any comebacks from my enemy camp.
Only the Silent Sha-Vi was able to survive two rounds in this battle which also got eliminated early in round 3 granting me one of the easiest wins. Part of the problem for my opponent was everyone was attacking different targets in my lineup and they didn't even manage to take down one.
Conclusion
As you just saw in the above battle, Diemonshark can be a single decisive factor in your lineup, It absorbed many attacks from my enemy team and didn't even flinch.
Its attacking strength was on full display as well, as he took down two units in round 2. So, you can see how powerful it can be in both aspects of the game. It can help the front line for a long duration of time while you can attack the enemy units from behind and take down even the most powerful of compositions.
It justifies 8 mana costs and can be a game changer in most lineups. I recommend using it. It has some advantages in a few rulesets as well. So make sure you exploit those as well.
I recommend this unit. Let me know if you use any other strategies and what are your views about this unit.
