The latest episode of Radio Liquorice -- a podcast I put out with the help of a bunch of highly talented musical friends -- aired last night.
It includes songs from some Hive regulars including ,
and me
. I'm also hopeful that
and
will return to the running order at some time in the near future!
Please let me know if you are a musician on Hive and would like to feature on the guest spot
I've started having a theme for each episode, because I've changed the way I put the podcast together. I used to script out an intro and back-announcement to each individual song, and it used to take me an entire precious day at the weekend. So I outsourced some of that work to my wonderful contributors, and they now send me a three-song set as if they were at an open mic, with or without intros. All I have to do is introduce each performer, which cuts my workload by about two thirds and gives me back some of my weekend 😃
The result, though, is that there's a lot less talking, with some sets just playing out as they were given to me, which makes the whole experience more atmospheric. So I thought I'd try to run with that, and create each episode as a themed podcast appropriate to the time of year. You can judge for yourself whether it works or not.
This month's episode is dedicated to new beginnings. I am always amazed every time at the sheer variety of contributions I receive, with original tunes, multi-track recordings, and highly individual covers of well-known tunes, sometimes spanning multiple genres including jazz and classical. We listen to the show together as it premieres, wherever we are, and comment via the group chat. It's a great atmosphere and incredibly supportive to be a part of. I hope you like the result!
