The earth is a place that has existed for several years; it serves as an accommodation for different living organisms. The existence of the earth today makes it possible for humans to grow and have the idea of developing themselves and the geographical area as a whole.
On earth, we are blessed with different natural resources that could be used for our benefit, but due to some factors, in the quest to make money and live a successful life, we take undue advantage of all these natural resources.
Since the earth provides us with so many benefits, it is our right to protect it and make it a safer and healthier place to live. Many animals have gone to extinction because of human activities and selfish interests, such as bush burning and the killing of wildlife for food.
Some useful trees, which are supposed to be prevented from dying by replanting to save some ecological factors, have been cut down for sale, making the earth vulnerable to different attacks such as erosion and flooding.
Today is Mother Earth Day. It is worth celebrating, but not many people take note of this. Many human factors have contributed to all the changes we are experiencing recently. The unexplainable climatic change is part of it, and in Nigeria presently, we can't explain nor understand the sudden change in our climate. We've had to endure scorching sun and heat for several months now, which is not supposed to be so.
WAYS BY WHICH WE CAN PROTECT THE EARTH
There are many ways we can protect the earth, to mention a few.
- Educating people about the usefulness of plants, trees, and wildlife to prevent their extinction.
- Construction of game reserve areas, zoos, and parks where people can see the animals in reality to know or learn more about them. For example, their way of eating, mating, and reacting to environmental factors.
- Volunteer for cleanups and environmental sanitation in your community. It is a great way to help keep the earth in safe condition.
- Avoid the use of heavy machinery that emits harmful substances, which may cause ozone layer depletion.
- Reduce, reuse, and recycle; this is one way to protect Mother Earth. Cutting down on what we throw away is the right thing to do to conserve natural resources. Plastic bottles can be recycled to produce other things that would be useful to humans.
- Planting trees protects the earth; it provides drugs, food, and oxygen. Trees help save energy, clear the air, and fight climate change.
- Using long-lasting light bulbs conserves energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Also, taking off the light when it's not in use saves energy.
- Avoid sending harmful chemicals into the waterways; chemical industries and factories should avoid this by all means to provide clean and safe water for humans, plants, and animals.
Promoting the use of renewable resources should be encouraged, as it cuts across all forms of earth conservation, be it environmental, animal, marine, or human. Protecting Earth's integrity is everyone's business, not just the government. Taking necessary precautions in the house and industries would help humans, plants, and animals enjoy the fruitfulness and sweetness of Earth.
