Ayer estuve viendo nuevamente la película “La Profecía” del año 1976, dirigida por Richard Dooner. Son fan del género de terror sobre todo de las películas clásicas.
Me encanta verlas y analizarlas. El cine de horror de esa época, no contaba con efectos especiales tan espectaculares como los que tenemos hoy día, sin embargo, había otros elementos que era muy bien explotados por los directores para crear la atmosfera tensa y lúgubre necesaria para llevar a los espectadores a sentir el terror que querían transmitir.
Estos elementos, merecen ser estudiados por quienes nos dedicamos a la narrativa visual, como lo es el comic, manga o cualquiera de sus derivaciones ya que nos permiten aprender nuevas formas de enriquecer la forma en que queremos llevar nuestras historias hasta los lectores brindándoles una mejor perspectiva y ritmo.
“La Profecía” cuenta con una serie de escenas y secuencias bastante impactantes que logran crear una sensación de tensión y suspenso, que unido a la banda sonora de Jerry Goldsmith y a las espectaculares actuaciones, hacen que algunas de ellas sean escalofriantes.
Una escena que tiene ejemplos notables sobre el impacto que tiene el uso de ángulos de cámara es la del ataque de los perros en el cementerio.
La combinación de ángulos inusuales y encuadres dinámicos contribuye a dar la intensidad visual y emocional del momento.
Al momento de descubrir la verdad sobre el nacimiento de Damian, aparecen los perros cercando a los dos personajes que se encuentran en el cementerio. Se hace una toma desde abajo lo cual no sólo contribuye a que la aparición de los animales sea impactante sino les da un aire de superioridad en ese momento.
Posteriormente, un plano amplio, lo cual da contexto del lugar donde se desarrolla la acción pero también hace ver lo indefenso que se encuentran los personajes en ese momento.
Al momento de la persecución, se usan encuadres poco usuales y ángulos inclinados para transmitir la sensación de desequilibrio y peligro inminente; mientras los perros se abalanzan sobre sus presas, una serie de tomas dinámicas se muestran intensificando la sensación de peligro y desesperación de los personajes, lo cual es transmitido al espectador.
Esto ejemplifica la importancia de los ángulos de cámara y cómo pueden tener impacto en la narrativa visual.
Si unimos esto al uso de la iluminación y sombras se lograrán escenas de gran intensidad visual que lograrán captar la atención de nuestros lectores.

Yesterday I was watching again the movie "The Omen" from 1976, directed by Richard Donner. I am a fan of the horror genre, especially classic movies.
I love watching them and analyzing them. The horror cinema of that time did not have such spectacular special effects as we have today, however, there were other elements that were very well exploited by the directors to create the tense and gloomy atmosphere necessary to make the viewers feel the terror they wanted to convey.
These elements deserve to be studied by those of us who are dedicated to visual narrative, such as comics, manga, or any of its derivatives, as they allow us to learn new ways to enrich the way we want to bring our stories to the readers, providing them with a better perspective and rhythm.
"The Omen" has a series of quite impactful scenes and sequences that manage to create a feeling of tension and suspense, which, combined with Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack and the spectacular performances, make some of them chilling.
One scene that has notable examples of the impact of camera angles is the attack of the dogs in the cemetery.
The combination of unusual angles and dynamic framing contributes to the visual and emotional intensity of the moment.
When discovering the truth about Damian's birth, the dogs appear surrounding the two characters in the cemetery. A shot is taken from below, which not only contributes to the animals' appearance being impactful but also gives them an air of superiority at that moment.
Subsequently, a wide shot, which provides context of the place where the action takes place but also shows how defenseless the characters are at that moment.
During the pursuit, unusual framings and tilted angles are used to convey the feeling of imbalance and imminent danger; while the dogs pounce on their prey, a series of dynamic shots are shown intensifying the feeling of danger and desperation of the characters, which is transmitted to the viewer.
This exemplifies the importance of camera angles and how they can have an impact on visual narrative.
If we combine this with the use of lighting and shadows, scenes of great visual intensity that will capture the attention of our readers can be achieved.
