If you haven't read it yet, here's Part One. I apologize for the photo quality but I wasn't sure I wanted to bring my good camera to a packed hardcore show. This was probably a good idea because my phone flew out of my hand at one point while I was recording the last band. As I add videos to dtube, I'll update this post with links to those. They're better than these photos.
I woke up pretty early, around 6 am. After doing some Steemit posts, I went for a short bike ride. I used my GoPro to make a vlog, but I'll probably edit and post that when I'm back home. These hills are difficult here and I wasn't even on the steep ones. I was just riding around Lawrenceville.
Every time I come to Skull Fest, there seem to be more shows and more bands. We skipped the daytime show as I really didn't want to tired of music by the time I saw the bands I really wanted to see.
Instead we went to some record stores, comic book shops and used book stores. I bought managed to buy nothing as I really don't want to add anything more to my collections. I'd rather sell stuff. I would have bought a used book maybe, if I found one I wanted, as I'm almost done with the book I'm currently reading. But the friend I came with is a collector and wanted to buy comics.
The first comic book store had a pretty impressive collection of back issues. If this is what you are looking for in Pittsburgh, then check out Duncan Comics. There are certainly many more in Pittsburgh, but my friend was most impressed by this store. I was a little annoyed, seeing how much some comics went for, ones that I remember owning and think I may have sold way too cheap. They also had a huge selection of used books. If you are looking for old science fiction novels, this place might be heaven for you. I couldn't find anything I wanted to read though.
Our next stop was a a trifecta of awesomeness in one building. 3138 Dobson Street in Polish Hill houses Kaibur Coffee on the first floor, Cruel Noise Records on the second floor, and Copacetic Comics on the third floor. Well, I did spend money here, but because I was hungry. Kaibur Coffee is basically a punk rock coffee shop if there ever was one. They have a lot of vegan selections if that's your diet. I'm not vegan. I had the fried egg and cheddar sandwich. Sorry I have no photo, but for only $5 this was absolutely delicious and quite filling. Cruel Noise specializes in punk records, mostly used but with a smaller new records section as well. Copacetic has a lot of small press comics and a large selection of novels and other non-comic books.
Our last stop was at Jerry's Records. Now this is probably the largest used record store I've been to. It has just a small entrance on the first floor of a commercial building but it occupies most of the second floor. It's so many records that you could spend hours looking. It's much more than I can really want. I have to say I was tempted to buy some Tommy Roe and Tommy James & the Shondells records, which were only $4-$5 each. I love 60s bubble gum pop, but I really want to sell off some records than add to my collection right now.
We were going to make food when we got back to the house around 5 pm, but then I realized the show was starting at 6 and I really wanted to see the first band. It was at Spirit and they have awesome pizza (the red pizza is vegan), so I just ate there.
Killer of Sheep are probably my favorite current Pittsburgh band. They've been around for maybe 8 years and recently released an album on Taang! Records. Their original singer left the band before they recorded the album but he was back singing with them tonight. I'm not sure if this permanent or just the line-up for a few shows they are playing on a mini-tour this weekend.

Drug Lust played second, wearing ski masks as always. They're also a local band. The singer spent a good portion of the set on the floor in the mosh pit so the video I have might be hard to see.
Reason of Insanity, from Louisiana were up next. I really forgot about this band, but I actually own some of their records. I believe they are just a temporary reunion but I'm really not sure.
Protes Bengt from Sweden played next. They were listed on the schedule as special guests for some reason, even though they were on the main Skull Fest weekend flyer. They played really short songs and were pretty awesome. I love getting the chance to see so many international bands at one DIY music festival.
Next up was one of the bands I most wanted to see. Annihilation Time played an awesome reunion show and I hope they play some more. The band is from California but their singer Jimmy Rose has lived in Pittsburgh a long time. He is also one of the founders of Skull Fest. They were absolutely amazing. I saw them a number of times when I used to live in Pittsburgh and this was a treat to see them again.
The headliner of the night were New York hardcore legends the Cro-Mags! This is with John Joseph singing. I don't think he and Harley Flanagan will ever play again. I am perfectly happy seeing the Cro-Mags with John Joseph singing. This is actually the third time I've seen them in the past 5 years or so. John Joseph must be in his 50s by now but he still has more energy than most singers in their 20s. Perhaps these vegan cyclists are on to something. Well, in his case he's a vegan doing ironman triathlons.
We went to an after party but we were an hour early. I didn't realize there was another show still happening at another venue. I was tired and drank too much so we went back to the AirBNB instead.
