It took me a long time to decide to write a post about Piazza delle Erbe, since I was there almost three years ago, in 2023. One of the main reasons was the choice of photos. I made a lot of them there, but due to the crowds of people and the stalls, not exactly the ones I would have liked. As a compromise, I chose the ones below.
I would call the square itself: Beautiful Chaos. On the one hand, beautiful, diverse architecture from different eras, and on the other, crowds of people and stalls selling mainly souvenirs and clothes.

Do przedstawienia placu "Piazza delle Erbe" w formie postu zbierałem się bardzo długo, ponieważ byłem tam prawie 3 lata temu w 2023 roku. Jednym z głównych powodów był wybór zdjęć. Wykonałem tam ich sporo, ale ze względu na tłumy ludzi oraz stragany, nie do końca takie jakie bym chciał. W ramach pewnego kompromisu wybrałem poniższe.
Sam plac nazwałbym: Piękny Chaos. Z jednej strony piękna, różnorodna architektura z różnych epok oraz z drugiej strony tłumy ludzi i stragany ze sprzedawcami głównie pamiątek i ubrań.
The stalls are located in the center of the square, so as we explore, we walk around them, like a roundabout, although the shape is different here, more like a rectangle. We start our walk from the southeastern part of the square and will go clockwise.
Stragany znajdują się na środku plac, więc zwiedzając plac obchodzimy je dookoła, jak na ulicznym rondzie, choć tutaj kształt jest inny, bardziej przypomina prostokąt. Nasz spacer zaczynamy od południowo-wschodniej części placu i będzie zgodnie ze wskazówkami zegara.
After a few moments, on the left we pass the 1920 monument "La Civiltà Italica". It commemorates the victims of the Austrian bombings of November 14, 1915.
Behind the monument is Pizzeria Berberè, where we enjoyed a good pizza at the end of our tour.
Po paru chwilach po lewej stronie mijamy pomnik z 1920 roku "La Civiltà Italica". Jest upamiętnieniem ofiar austriackich bombardowań z 14 listopada 1915 roku.
Za pomnikiem znajduje się Pizzeria Berberè, w której na koniec zwiedzania zjedliśmy dobrą pizzę.
The view we leave behind. The medieval Domus Mercatorum stands out. Built in the early 14th century, it replaced a wooden building that had stood here, and was intended for merchants. In a sense, a medieval shopping mall was established here.
Widok jaki zostawiamy za sobą. Wyróżnia się na nim średniowieczny budynek Domus Mercatorum. Powstał na początku XIV wieku w miejsce stojącego tutaj drewnianego budynku i był przeznaczony dla kupców. W pewnym sensie powstała tutaj średniowieczna galeria handlowa.
At the end of the square, in the northwest corner, we have three attractions: the "Torre del Gardello," the "Palazzo Maffei," and the "Colonna di San Marco."
The Gardello Tower, a 44-meter bell tower with a clock, was built in 1370 and rebuilt in the 15th and 17th centuries.
The Maffei Palace is a 15th-century building that was expanded in the Baroque style. This expansion was completed in 1668 and took 200 years. Atop the building are sculptures of Hercules, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Apollo, and Minerva.
Na końcu placu, czyli w północno-zachodniej części, mamy trzy atrakcje: "Torre del Gardello", "Palazzo Maffei" oraz "Colonna di San Marco".
Wieża Gardello, czyli 44 metrowa dzwonnica z zegarem powstała w 1370 roku, przebudowana w XV i XVII wieku.
Pałac Maffei to budynek z XV wieku, który został rozbudowany w stylu barokowym. Ta rozbudowa zakończyła się w 1668 roku i trwała 200 lat. Na szczycie budynku znajdują się rzeźby: Herkulesa, Jowisza, Wenus, Merkurego, Apollina oraz Minerwy.
In front of them stands the Column with the Lion of St. Mark from 1523.
Natomiast przed nimi stoi Kolumna z lwem Świętego Marka z 1523 roku.
Colorful frescoes have been preserved on some of the building facades.
Na niektórych fasadach budynków zachowały się kolorowe freski.
If there weren't all those stalls and crowds of people, it would be much easier to take photos, and I would like this square even more. But that's the reality, at least when I was there.
Gdyby nie było tych wszystkich straganów i tłumów ludzi to dużo łatwiej by się fotografowało, jeszcze bardziej podobałby mi się ten plac. Ale tak wygląda jego rzeczywistość, przynajmniej w czasie kiedy ja tam byłem.
In the center of the upper part of the square is the Fountain of the Madonna ("Fontana di Madonna Verona") from 1368. The Madonna sculpture itself dates back to 380 AD, during Roman times. It is the oldest monument in this square.
Na środku górnej części placu znajduje się Fontanna Madonny ("Fontana di Madonna Verona") z 1368 roku. Sama rzeźba Madonny datowana jest na 380 rok, czyli czasy rzymskie. Jest najstarszym zabytkiem na tym placu.
The tour of the square concludes with the Torre dei Lamberti, a tower 84 meters high, visible from many points in Verona. Built in 1172, the two bells, Rengo and Marangona, were installed in 1295. It was rebuilt in the mid-15th century after being struck by lightning. A clock was added in 1795.
You can climb the tower and admire the city panorama from there.
Na koniec zwiedzania placu wieża "Torre dei Lamberti" o wysokości 84 metrów, przez co jest widoczna z wielu miejsc w Weronie. Powstała w 1172 roku, następnie w 1295 roku zainstalowano dwa dzwony: Rengo i Marangona. W połowie XV wieku odbudowana po uderzeniu pioruna. W 1795 roku został dodany zegar.
Na wieżę można wejść i podziwiać z niej panoramę miasta.
Overall, I recommend visiting this place. If you don't like crowds, you can choose a less touristy time; maybe there will be fewer of them then ;)
Ogólnie polecam odwiedzić to miejsce. Jeśli ktoś nie lubi tłumów, to może wybrać sobie mniej turystyczny termin, może będzie wtedy ich mniej ;)
