Hysteria is the fourth studio album by English rock band Def Leppard. The album was released on August 3, 1987 by Phonogram Incorporated. It was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Hysteria is the follow-up to the band's breakthrough 1983 album Pyromania.

The album's title was thought up by drummer Rick Allen, referring to his 1984 car accident, the amputation of his arm, and the subsequent worldwide media coverage surrounding it. The creation of Hysteria took more than three years due to the accident that cost Rick Allen his left arm on December 31, 1984, and some delays. Lasting 62 minutes and 32 seconds, the album is Def Leppard's longest album to date.

Hysteria was a major commercial success, selling more than 20 million copies worldwide, including 12 million in the US, and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. It is Def Leppard's best-selling album to date and spawned seven hit singles. The album peaked at number one on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. “Love Bites” is a wistfully humming mid-tempo love song driven by an engaging rhythm guitar. I love this song and it's amazing that this song is still being played on the radio even though it's 35 years old. Additionally, its chorus is one of the best examples of Def Leppard's unique group vocal harmony that lands with peak enthusiasm.
