People's taste in music has always been very special; some like classical music, some like rock music, some like pop music, some like different types of music. Since the number of music genres is quite large, everyone can find the type of music that suits their taste.
There are more than 6,000 genres of music and each has its own fans. One of the popular music genres is Rock Music. Today I will talk about Rock Music. By the way, there are more than 500 genres of rock music.
Frankly, I listen to any kind of music that is pleasing to my ears, depending on my mood. I love listening to rock music because it gives me enthusiasm and excitement.
If I ask "what is rock music?", everyone will have a different answer because rock music has developed a great deal since its first release and today it has become a broad umbrella with numerous subgenres under it. I'm not going to get into an endless debate about which genre is real Rock, but I'll just talk briefly about Rock Music in general.
Rock Music
Rock music is a popular music genre that originated as "rock and roll" in the USA in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles after the 1960s. We can say that its roots go back to the rock and roll of the 1940s and 1950s. Rock and roll is heavily inspired by blues, rhythm and blues, and country music. 1950s
When rock music first came out, it was called Rock and Roll and was inspired by blues and jazz. Rock music, which showed similar characteristics with R&B in these periods, influenced music lovers with energetic and dancing pieces in the 1950s.
1960s
Rock music didn't stay hidden long and it quickly entered its golden age in the 1960s. The cultural change created by rock music started to show its effect all over the world, especially in the USA and England, when we came to the 1960s.
The fact that rock music became more popular and loved also affected other music bands and artists. Many new rock bands emerged, and at the same time, those who made different kinds of music began to change their music with the rhythms of rock music. In the 1960s, too many rock bands emerged, and as such, many genres of rock began to emerge. In addition, the songs released in the 1960s are still among the most listened to today. I think that no matter how much time passes, they will continue to listen forever.
Even the song with the simplest lyrics yet still manages to be one of the best classics of all time.
1970s
The relaxed hippie culture of the 1960s changed by the 1970s. These comfortable guys suddenly turned to hard music culture and hard rock started to spread. Also, Led Zeppelin released their hardest songs during this period. In addition, towards the end of the 1970s, some musicians started to sound harder while singing, and we can say that the first seeds of metal were planted. Around the time heavy metal was born, other bands started to make different music. The seeds of punk, which is hard and energetic like metal, started to be planted towards the end of the 70s and we can say that it took the music world by storm at that time.
Also, bands like the Sex Pistols, The Clash emerged and created the punk genre by making rock music as simple, loud and angry as it could be.
1980s
Rock music, which raged in the 1970s, calmed down a bit when we came to the 1980s, and it was losing its commercial power and its sound was getting stale.
In such stagnant environments, groups such as Depeche Mode created a post-punk style, adding keyboard rhythm to the sounds we know and writing more introspective lyrics. Bands such as REM tried a similar genre and became known as college rock. College rock, which appeals to a small group, has come to be called alternative rock, modern rock and indie rock over time, as it offers a different style from mainstream rock music.
1990s
While some were saying that rock music is over, in the 1990s rock music made a great comeback. In 1991, Nirvana released Nevermind and it was an incredible comeback. With the release of the album in grunge genre, which looks like a combination of hard rock and punk, music lovers started to hear rock music again wherever they turned their ears. The suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in 1994 shocked everyone.
Rap music emerged during this period. And bands like Limp Bizkit, Staind, Puddle of Mudd have managed to effectively blend mainstream rock music with rap music.
When we came to the 21st century, rock music was still in our lives, and with the widespread use of the internet, countless new rock music groups emerged.
