Hello everyone! Are you guys having a great day? Well, I hope so.
My today’s illustration is 'fishes on the surface' and I will show you the steps of how to do this. I did this illustration in Autodesk. This app has been a real deal for me, cause most of my classic or cool illustrations are done using this app. I don’t know about others but I love Autodesk. Also, I do most of my illustration on an android phone (Realme C12) so I don’t know how it works on other devices, but works perfectly in mine.
Anyways, let’s start with the illustration process:
Firstly, as I am going to draw two fishes near the surface of the water, I will have to keep the background blue. Then I have sketched the outline of the two fishes that you can see below. Now, making my way towards giving them an interesting color.
After coloring comes shading. I didn’t use any fancy tools or techniques that are required for shading. I just duplicated the layers in which I colored the fishes, then applied a 'multiplied effect' and used a 'soft eraser' to erase the parts where I thought to keep the shade lighter. I also reduced the opacity of the duplicated layer because it was too dark.
Well, as the fishes are done, now let’s give a little detail in the background to demonstrate the depth and shallow parts of the water. To do that, I used a 'watercolor brush', 'a blending tool', 'a dark blue color', and 'a light blue color'.
Afterward, I used these two colors to express the depth of the water using dark blue and the shaded part of the water. With them, I used the light blue color by blending the bold sides of the color, using the blending tool so they mix well. Finally, it turned out like this.
Now, the next part is going to be a bit tricky which is forming bubbles in the water. So here I set a new layer in multiplied effect then used the same light blue color and watercolor brushes to draw irregular shapes of circles. Now, the reason I drew the irregular shapes of circles, is because in water the air bubbles are not perfect circles.
So, when that was done, next I took a new layer. I kept the effect as normal and used the white color to draw an exclamation mark at the sides of the bubbles. Even though mine doesn’t look that good, if you guys like it, then you guys can use this method.
Next, I drew waves or you can say ripples. For that, I have applied the 'multiplied effect' in a new layer again and drew lines around the fishes with the light blue color using 'a watercolor brush.' After that, I used a blending tool to blend the colors as you can see below.
Then in a new layer again, I kept the normal effect and drew white lines on the waves using a pencil and a pen tool.
Next, here comes the fancy part and also a little bit tough one. So at first, I got a suitable smudge or blending tool, then smudged the fish in the layer where I colored the fish. When you do it, MAKE SURE YOU DUPLICATE THAT LAYER IN CASE IT DIDN’T TURN OUT THE WAY YOU WANTED. Now smudge on top of the fish in the pattern of water ripples, below is a demonstration of ripples.
Like this, you smudge the fish around the waves you drew before as I did in the next part.
Well, that’s it. That was the last part. I hope you guys liked it. Bye-bye now. See you guys in the next post. Thank you.
The digital art is created using Autodesk Paint in Realme C12 and all the clips are screenshots of the process.
