I watched a new movie called Cleaner. It is nothing much but simple from the plot to the end. I kind of like the movie because of how simple they kept the plot throughout the movie. The movie stars Daisy Ridley as a cleaner of a luxurious building in London. For starters, her brother gets kicked out of the special home he has been staying in because he hacked into their system. So he has to go stay with his sister, but before they head home, his sister has to go work as she is running late.
Bringing her brother to work on this fateful day is what leads Daisy Ridley to play the hero in the movie when the eco-terrorists hijack the building. The hijack of the building took place while Joey (Daisy Ridley) was out cleaning the windows beyond her work hours to make up for being late.
The eco-terrorists all started as environmentalists who wanted the owners to pay for the pollution their oil company had caused to the land where they were drilling for oil. They corruptly covered it up with bribery and silenced any eyewitnesses. But the attempt to make the owners pay for their sins took a drastic turn when the second in command assassinated the leader. Now he brings killing into the equation under the guise of the necessary evil.
The movie's plot is quite simple without much complication and mind-cracking twists to decipher. The movie revolves around Joey as an ex-soldier, now turned skyscraper cleaner, living from paycheck to paycheck. Her acting is quite phenomenal, with so much drama going on, starting at the window at the topmost part of the skyscraper. She takes the initiative to go in and rescue her brother, who is hiding from the terrorists in the building. She even gets more support from the police officers who arrived on the scene after she made an SOS call on the building.
The movie reminds me of Skyscraper, starring Dwayne Johnson, where he tries to save his family from a burning skyscraper. There was a little difference, but the general concept of the entire movie still looks similar. As for Joey, she gets in, and the action gets even better. The attacks on the eco-terrorists were precise and straight to the point. While they aimed to keep the entity of the movie simple, it left it a bit predictable to outline the end. It is interesting to see a lady as the lead character in a building action movie.
It is more when Joey gets to make the bad guy pay, but how she does it is very interesting to watch. Nothing extravagant, but eliminating the threat after safely getting her brother out of the building to optimize her focus on the target. The movie is British, and you can tell by their accent. Most importantly, Ridley does an outstanding job in carrying the movie with her acting since a large portion of the movie is fixated on her actions. She is the lead character, but I didn't expect her to be badass in fighting scenes.
I got to watch her do her thing in making fighting look so easy on screen. I would not be surprised if he has some back experience in fighting or martial arts. Aside from that, the fighting choreography could just be that good and nothing else. If you are looking for something simple to watch while relaxing at home with a snack, I recommend you check out Cleaner.
