We are living in an uncertain world, so having a skill means a lot, it means having something to fall back on, it means creating opportunities rather than wait for them. You will all agree with me that the world we live in is changing so fast, for one to cope or adapt to those changes, we need knowledge and skills. Yes I know, that is why I decided not to keep this knowledge to myself but to share with young ones
I have equipped myself with skills, practical skills that I spent quality time to learn and some of these skills are still helping me till date. There's one funny thing about these skills, I acquired them right in my husband's house, people said a lot of negative things to discourage me but I did not give in. I attended a one year programme for teaching, I learnt bead making, I learnt hair dressing, I learnt cooking for large crowd, I learnt how to sell different kinds of beer. These skills have given me the ability to adapt when circumstances changes.
I have these young people who see me as their friend some are Young married women while some are Young ones, I encouraged them to acquire one skill or another. Some of them that took my advice, are doing very well for themselves, the married ones are supporting their families.
I have always believed that children should have a skill alongside formal education. I try to inculcate this mindset in my children too. The one that loves craft, I send him to technical school, the other one showed interest in fashion designing and he's into it. and the other that has interest in computer, I send him to where he will learn it. I'm trying my best to teach them self reliance and development.
I discovered that equipping Myself with knowledge and skills are the best decisions I have ever made in this uncertain world. Encouraging the young ones and guiding my children has helped me to understand that.
