Well I will start with the home brewery. I share the brewery space with my wife who enjoys oil painting and some of her pieces can be seen around the room. The brewery itself has a 15 gallon all grain brewing system that I built out of spare parts from my neighbors metal fencing. I have three fermenters which are a 14 gallon heated and cooled conical fermenter, a half barrel heated and cooled unitank, and a half barrel conical fermenter. I keg most of the beer I brew and use it in my home bar which we really enjoy especially when friends come over. The next photo is a picture of the home bar and you can see the brewery room in the room behind the bar. This space was a mother in law unit in our backyard until we moved in.
On the bar you can see the two beers which I will be enjoying this Saturday for #BeerSaturday. The two beer I will be enjoying are Stone IPA which is a beer from Escondido, California and Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA from San Francisco, California. Both beers for today are IPA beers. For those of you have never tried an IPA, it is a beer that has a strong hop flavor many times bitter but in well balanced beers very enjoyable. Depending on the hops used and the way they are used can really change the flavor of the beers. Sometimes fruity, piney, citrusy, floral, or woody flavors really come through. Once you have found an IPA you like, it will most likely become your go to beer.
I am starting with the Stone IPA which is the breweries flagship beer. This was one of my favorite beers when the brewer was a small scale brewery, but they have now become a much larger brewery and this beer can be found in all 50 states. The beer doesn't seem to have the same flavor it once had or my taste buds have change? I do still like it, just not sure if it rates in my top beers anymore. It has a strong lemon rine flavor along with other fruit flavors that come from the Magnum. Chinook, Centennial, Azacca, Calypso, and one secret hop used in the beer.
I have now moved on to the Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA. This beer is the flagship beer for Speakeasy. I really like it, as far as an IPA it is a little less hoppy then other IPA's however this beer has a great balance of hop flavor with malt flavor. This beer comes in at 6.5%. This beer uses CTZ, Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook hops. If you get a chance to try this beer it is worth it, it is very well balanced.
I hope you have enjoyed this post for #BeerSaturday and you are enjoying your Saturday. It is raining here in California's East Bay today. We really need the rain but it has just been on and off without any hard rain coming down.
I would like to thank Detlev for creating the beer saturdays.
