Friday Recap 30th Sept 2022
As I type this, it's 5:02pm on Friday afternoon. Around me people are finishing up for the day, locking the doors of their shops. 15 minutes earlier, I'd stepped out of the Samnang Bakery, with one of their Chicken Mayo Wraps for an extremely late lunch, and a 1.25 litre bottle of Coke No Sugar for later on tonight.
One of the benefits of using the on my phone is that I can type these posts anywhere, and right now I am leaning on a gumtree without it's consent, watching a crippled guy on a four wheeled scooter move disassembled bike parts from the home of one of my neighbours to somewhere else in the neighbourhood.
Without the photo, you'd think I was lying. They have some sort of trade happening. His home has a high gate around the front door and when I worked at the factory (early starts) I would see people leaving his property on bikes at 5am in the morning. I suspect some form of drug smuggling and or prostitution racket happening but I'd rather not be involved.
I wish I didn't live in suburbia sometimes.
The Hive Meetup
On the last Thursday of the month, we have a Hive meetup at The Duke Of Brunswick hotel at 6pm.
It's an informal gathering of Hive users, where you can meet in person, those who you're interacting with online. Think Hivefest only on a smaller scale, free to get in and the quality of guests is a lot higher.
Mostly we talk about crypto and Splinterlands and generally catch up with each other's lives.
On the way there, I decided to walk the 30 minutes from the train station, while typing yesterday's Hive post. Earning Hive on the way in and getting tips for earning more on the way home.
I saw a lot of stuff that I found amusing, although my sense of humour can be quite dry, ironic and even surreal at times.
This image of an expensive car, on dirty concrete, behind a chainlink fence barely protecting two half built display walls is an example of this.
The area I walked through had a mixture of old and new buildings, and the contrast between them, and technology providing an opiate for those living in a developmental area wasn't lost on me. Comfort comes first.
I also saw a building that was advertising "Luxury Destinations" on one of it's walls, just above a desolate vacant lot. The ironic contrast also wasn't lost on me. As I approached to take a photo, I saw an elderly Asian woman riding a mountain bike in circles, clearly still learning after a lifetime of having been denied the privilege of something I'd taken for granted, while her pet cat watched supportingly.
It was s little to surreal for me, so I kept going.
Adelaide has a lot of hidden stuff to explore, and some of that will feature in my blog posts in the future, I'm sure.
For now, I have several weeks worth of various TV shows to catch up on and I still need to rehearse my comedy routine for tomorrow.
Feel free to use the #fridayrecap hashtag with your own posts here. And please leave a comment if you enjoy what I am doing. Hive thrives on engagement.
Thank you for reading.
