It has been a race against time to get the green house set up in time for these cannabis plants. Though the max height has been reached for those four Blue Dream plants. They have been growing for about a month now, and reached 16 inches. In my last grow I let them get up to 20 inches tall and this almost caused problems for me.
If the plants get too close to the lights once fully raised they can damage the buds. The heat coming off my powerful lights can reach well over 100F when just a few inches from them, which will destroy the terpenes. Indeed 20 inches they got quite close to the lights, though not enough to damage but enough to make me hang to hang the lights directly on the grow tent frame instead of the adjustable pullies. Which is not ideal... So we are trying out a little shorter, and maybe we can go to 18 inches next time. Though depending on the strain the stretch can be drastically different.
Some pictures of the four plants before they went into the flowering tent. This causes a switch inside the plant and makes them flower. We change the light color, its hour cycle and adjust the humidity to get them to form great flowers. This can take around two months to complete, even longer with some strains.
I gave them a misting every so often, the water evaporates within an hour. I tend to give them more leaf mistings than they get to the roots, when they are young they drink more water from the air than from the roots. But eventually the roots get bigger and start drinking lots.
Getting some final pictures in the vegging tent, as the flowering tent has a yellow light and does not show off the plants as good.
One of them is younger than the others, started one more when one of the transplants did not make it.
Moving the Blue Dream to the flowering tent:
Using a technique called SCROG we work the plant through two nets over time. This will form a dense canopy of leaves and flowers. It will be my first time trying this so hope it works well.
Luckily I have some great help from the Canna Curate community. Always giving me good advise on my cannabis grows.
I work the branches under the first net, trying to make them not pop out, so the plant will grow up and around them. Filling in as many squares as possible.
Keeping an eye on the temperature and humidity, its key to keep the plants hydrated during this big growing period.
We are also producing carbon dioxide (Co2) by mixing yeast and sugar. This helps the plants have a higher heat resistance and form more growth. I have to refresh my mixture every few days to keep it bubbling and making Co2 gas bubbles. The fan draws up the air and helps it get to the plants.
I gave the plants a day to get used to the netting, and they are already forming new growth through it. Been working the branches back down under the netting to encourage new growth through the strands of cord.
During this period of growth, it is known as "the stretch". It will not take long to get through the second netting at this point. Maybe a week or two. And then the buds should start forming.
So what will I do with the green house? I will get it prepped for next years outdoor cannabis grow. And in the mean time keep other plants in there, I already started some black walnut trees in pots in there. So the area is being used, its just not up to "cannabis day spa" levels yet like I want it to be.. like my tents are.
